5 Stars A Book You Shouldn't Refuse! Review with images 23/03/2008

Advantages Advantages Well written, easy to read, great story and characters

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

I quite like trying new authors occasionally, especially those who have been around in the writing world for a long time. So when I was offered a swap on Read It Swap It and I saw the user was offering the new Jill Mansell book, I decided to go ahead with that one and my new hardback arrived in the post the next day and I set to reading it straight away. An Offer You Can't Refuse tells us the story of Lola Malone. At the start of the book, Lola is a 17 year old girl in love with her boyfriend Dougie. But when Dougie's mother offers her £10,000 to break up with her son, Lola takes the money and ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great characters

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Complicated in places

Lola is ticking along as your average 17 year old, working in a not-very-inspiring job, spending her spare time with the-love-of-her-life Dougie and generally getting by quite well, thank you very much. Dougie's mother might not be quite as smitten with Lola as Lola is with her son, but you can't have everything. What she hadn't banked on, however, was how much his mother disliked her - generally far too posh to say such things out loud, it had escaped Lola's notice until right now when Mrs Tennant comes right out and says it. And that's not all she says - she has an offer for Lola: leave my ... more

Advantages Advantages Great read with good characters! :)

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None for me.

Jill Mansell: An Offer you Can’t refuse Introduction I bought this book a while back from the book club which I use. I started reading Jill Mansell books a while ago when I read two of her books, Millie’s Fling and Miranda’s Big Mistake, both of which I fell in love with, and although not the type of books I “couldn’t put down”, they were great reads and lasted me a good week or so to finish, meaning I wasn’t sitting up until 4am trying to finish the books! So when I saw she had many other books, I decided to buy her two newest: An offer you can’t refuse and Rumour Has it, this book was the ... more

Advantages Advantages such a good read

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

My mum brought this book to read on holiday this year. After she read it within 3 days, I could not resist picking it up myself and having a read. The amount of time I spent on the sun lounger that holiday was ridiculous - I could not take my eyes off the pages! I am a big reader when it comes to holidays, car journeys and in the bath. I am not really fussy with authors, although I do have personal favourites. I had never really read any books by Jill Mansell, but now I am currently working my way through a selection of hers. I have found there to be around 18 books - so I have plenty more ... more

Lola Malone is 17. She is offered £10,000 by her boyfriend's mother to basically clear out of his life. She loves her boyfriend, Doug, so has no intention of taking her up on it. However, she uncovers a secret that day that makes her change her mind. Lola moves to Spain to lie low. Roll on a few years and Lola comes home to visit her family. With a passion for books she visits a bookstore and ends up with a job there, eventually becoming a manager of the store. An incident quite early on in the book brings her back into the path of her ex-boyfriend and his mother. She wonders how she could get ... more
