Advantages: A funny, touching and wonderful book Disadvantages: None
float along the surface. The families barely acknowledge each other.
I think the quote at the beginning gives a brief glimpse to the black humour that runs through the book. With his writing, TimWinton takes you along for the ride, and as you vividly experience the lows and highs of both families you are drawn into their lives. You care.
In my opinion, TimWinton is an excellent writer, and this book, as with others of his I have read, is truly rewarding.
The book is available from all leading street and one line retails. Published by Picador in the UK, its RRP is £6.99
My first opinion was on a book ? fairly awful and so far unchanged it is. Hopefully, this is progress, but I?d appreciate comments.
Thanks for reading. ...
Advantages: Well written, Entertaining Disadvantages: Minimal
?She lay back in the water, wishing some portal would open, that she might click on some dopey icon and proceed safely, painlessly, without regret or memory?.
Georgie Jutland has lost her way in life, if indeed she had ever found it. Before though, at least, she hadn?t become stuck in one of life?s backwaters, a small fictional fishing community called White Point, on the Western Australian Coast.
Jim Buckbridge was the ?uncrowned Prince? of White Point. He was looked up to with respect, and more than a little fear. That reputation was first acquired by his father, ?not merely a man?s man, but a bastard?s bastard?. Jim hadn?t been averse to making the most of it. Georgie was from a privileged if rather dysfunctional background, privately educated, the daughter of a QC and one of fours sisters. She was always the odd one out ...
Advantages: stops leaks when swimming Disadvantages: could work out pricey long term
My family aren't really big on swimming but ever so often when we're on holiday or during a trip to the beach it's fun to take a dip in the water and have a splash around, as toddlers my children have always enjoyed playing in water, including a tiny paddling pool in nanny's back garden, but before they were toilet trained there was always a certain dilemma, do you let them go nappy less and hope they behave or use a regular nappy that's likely to swell up as soon as it hits the water, of course when it comes to swimming pools these aren't exactly an option and so there is really only one choice- swim nappies.
Huggies Little Swimmers are disposable nappies designed specifically for use in the water, shaped like pull up nappies with no Velcro tabs to do them up, they have stretchy sides which give a more comfortable fit for your little ...
Jerra and his best mate Sean set off in a beaten-up old VW to go camping on the coast. Jerra's friends and family want to know when he will finish university, when he will find a girl. But they don't understand about Sean's mother Jewel, or the bush or the fish with the pearl. They think he needs a job but what Jerra is searching for is more elusive. Only the sea, and perhaps the old man who lives in a shack beside it, can help. Winton's debut novel is a haunting and powerful meditation on the horrors and joys of adulthood, and the conflict between ideals and reality.
