As a sufferer of migraine, depression, acid indigestion and IBS, I’m a woman who knows her way around the medicine cabinet. And whenever I feel that dreaded tight band around the forehead that signals a cracking headache, or the throbbing behind the eye that threatens migraine, there’s one thing I reach for and that’s Anadin Extra.
Over the years I’ve tried loads of different pain killers, but none have come close to Anadin Extra in terms of effectiveness and speed.
Anadin Extra are a more powerful version of the traditional Anadin, made by Whitehall Laboratories (who also make many other big names in medicine, including Advil, Bisodol, Centrum and the butt of many jokes, Preparation H).
Ingredients ===========
One Anadin Extra tablet contains 200mg of Paracetamol, 300mg of Aspirin and 45mg of Caffeine.
Take just one of these ingredients alone and the chances are your symptoms will only be dulled, or in the case of caffeine increased. But put them all together and the result is fantastic.
The suggested dose is 2 tablets for adults no more than every 4 hours. They are not suitable for children under 12, and should not be taken by pregnant women, people with liver/kidney disease, asthmatics or people with stomach ulcers.
In the case of people with stomach ulcers, they should not be taken because aspirin causes internal stomach bleeding. For this same reason, you may find they don’t suit you if you suffer generally from a problem stomach.
It is also recommended that you do not use them on a prolonged basis, and as they contain paracetamol you must not exceed the stated dose.
Usage =====
I have taken Anadin Extra for all of the following:
Headaches Migraine Toothache Joint aches and pains Flu Hangover Neuralgia Period pain
They are suitable for most pains in fact, with the exception of stomach ache.
Effectiveness =============
When I take 2 Anadin Extra, I generally feel relief after about 15 minutes (sooner if I take them with coffee) and the effects last a good few hours unless the pain is severe.
Other Info ==========
Anadin Extra are available in all good chemists and supermarkets and often in smaller retailers and newsagents.
They come in packs of 8, 16 and 32. (They used to come in packs of 64 too but I believe it has been made illegal for people to purchase more than 32 tablets of this kind at a time).
They are packaged in a yellow little wallet (the 8s) or slim boxes. The tablets are small and sort of torpedo shaped and are coated with s smooth substance which makes them both tasteless (as long as you don’t suck them!) and easy to swallow even without liquid.
Price =====
Time was when these tablets were ridiculously expensive, but recent legislation has bought prices down dramatically. A pack of 16 is generally just over a pound nowadays, which is very reasonable.
But if you think this is still expensive, try Tesco's ‘Extra Power’ pain killers which are exactly the same and are considerably cheaper but of course can only be bought at Tesco. (I do buy these whenever I’m at Tesco but that’s not often, hence me being an Anadin Extra fan because they’re so easy to get hold of).
Overall =======
An effective, easy to get hold of, easy to use, fast-acting product that I would not be without in either home, car or handbag.

An excellent product review - if I told you that I have never had a headache in my life you probably would not believe me - but it's true - I must be weird but very lucky. Mike
