Paracetamol, I think that this is quite a under rated painkiller! I often when dispensing these to patient hear “these don’t even touch it” and request something stronger. Though give it a chance, I never until recently – due to a back injury when I was younger I have been taking strong painkillers and becoming dependant on them. Though when I find out I was pregnant I could not take opioid-based analgesia but you can take paracetamol, although didn’t want to take any medication while pregnant I did need it and paracetamol was more effective then I have it credit for.

It should be used for mild to moderate pain and pyrexia (high temperatures). It’s advised that paracetamol is best for headaches, migraine, toothaches, sore throat and period pains. Paracetamol is also effective for relief of rheumatic and muscular aches and pains, sciatica, fibrisitis, lumbago, joint swelling and stiffness. Also useful for this time of year good for cold and flu like symptoms!!
Though must be said that analgesia has different effects on everyone, for me paracetamol doesn’t provide relief for migraines though helps in mild muscular pain, and very effective when I have a cold also brings my temperature down.
******** Cautions! ********
As with all medication there is people that should just steer clear of them, in paracetamol these people are them with hepatic and renal impairment, and those that are alcohol dependant.
Also if you suffer form a deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase then you should avoid!
Although pharmacists tell you that you can take paracetamol though out the three trimesters of pregnancy its suggested that you should have a word with your pharmacist or doctor.
Obviously if you have had a reaction to paracetamol in the past then avoid!
*********** Side effects!! ***********
Paracetamol, well this is where its even better there is so few side effects!! These are the rare side effects, rashes and blood disorders can sometimes cause bruising. Pancreatitis and the important one! Prolonged use can cause liver damage.
**You should always go to your doctor if you experience any reactions**
***** Dose *****
Children under 6 it is not advised for them, therefore Calpol is used! (See previous Calpol review for more details)
Children 6-12 years old! Half to one tablet (250mg-500mg) up to four times a day, maximum 2G per 24 hours. (Ensuring that a 4-6 hour gap between tablet).
Adults, the elderly and children over 12! One to two tablets (500mg – 1G) up to four times a day. Maximum 4G per 24 hours. (Ensuring that a 4-6 hour gap between tablets).
**You should not exceed the recommended does, and if your symptoms last for over three days then you should take a trip to your Doctor. **
Paracetmol can be bought in an oral solution (for all those that can’t swallow pills). Tablets, soluble tablets, capsules and in suppository form.
Personally I take paracetamol in tablet form, much easier than one of the other options!!
******************************** pregnacy and breastfeeding. ********************************
As stated previously, there are no known harmful effects when taking this during pregnancy, also important to say – small amounts of paracetamol is passed in to the breast milk though there is no known harmful effects when it is used while breast feeding!
**** Price ****
For this brand of paracetamol it is quite expensive in deeded!! Costing £1.75 for just 16 tablets!! Which considering you buy a standard supermarkets own paracetamol it costs approx 25 pence for 16 tablets! This price puts me off simply because they are all the same drug Paracetamol 500mg just with a 1 pound 50p difference!!
When needing to use this I found them effective analgesia for mild pain and would recommend then to everyone able to take them, though I would suggest the cheaper versions!!
oh and please remember to keep out of reach from children, and in a place where the temprature is below 25 degree's C.
And beware... make sure you are not taking any other paracetamol based drugs.

There are several types of Anadin available, ranging from the standard Anadin Regular to the more expensive varieties, Anadin Extra and Anadin Ultra. The box I have in front of me is Anadin Paracetamol (Regular), which contains 16 individual tablets. My review will therefore focus on this particular variety.

Paracetamol is one of the cheapest medicines available but big companies selling them under there own brand names inflate the prices drastically. These include Anadin. Many users seek peace of mind and comfort in the brand but I personally see this as a waste of money. When I was in West Africa a few months ago, I visited one of my friends who had a ...

Advantages: Works for most people Disadvantages: Doesn't work for a few of us
Ok, so after my review on calpol I’ve come to the conclusion that infact its not the calpol which doesn’t work on me, it’s the paracetamol.
I have a serious toothache right now after having my brace metal tracks replaced, so I tried some paracetamol. Some hours later the pain had still not disappeared or even flinched.
Paracetamol should be further researched as some of us who seem to be resilient to the “drug” get ... ...things, Colds etc but paracetamol or pain killers is something I do not want to be resilient to as, it most definitely isn’t pleasurable.
Against sore throats and back aches I find paracetamol to be most useful but in the long run it doesn’t seem to help what so ever and the only other thing I can think of that kills pain is local anesthetics. I don’t know about you guys but I would most definitely like to be able to feel the limb ...

Advantages: None, Disadvantages: Paying for a brand name and not receiving maximum dose.
When you read the label anadin extra, you really think your getting the maximum pain relifef and a relative got these for me as a favour when I was suffering a migraine and could not drive to get to the shop. As a nurse practitioner the first thing I did was look at the ingredients section of the packaging which states - Each tablet contains 300mg of Aspirin, 200mg of Paracetamol and 45mg of Caffeine. Take 2 tablets with a drink of water. Repeat every 4 hours as required.
So if you took 2 tablets you would recieve 600mg of Aspirin, 400mg of Paracetamol and 90mg of Caffeine and feel you had received "anadin extra". Yet you can take 900mg of aspirin and 1g of paracetamol as standard so you are not receiving what is the normal standard dose. So is it any wonder I still had the migraine after a couple of hours.
You are paying ...

Advantages: Works effectively, quickly and confidently. Disadvantages: Expensive, but it would be more expensive to suffer.
if you leave it then it could be worse.
I don't want to frighten anyone or have you all running to the doctor's, but I just want to warn you and tell you what happened to my best friend.
Anyway now I've said that, without further a do I shall proceed in telling you why I choose Anadin Extra.
Although Anadin Extra are expensive and probably the most expensive brand of over the counter pain killer's (but don't quote me on that!) they work extremely well. They get rid of pain within half an hour to an hour with no side effects for me although I do believe they have some and like I said earlier there a no, no for pregnant ladies out there.
Here are the active ingredients in Anadin Extra:
200mg of Paracetamol, 300mg of Aspirin and 45mg of Caffeine.
Anadin Extra is available in packs containing 8, 12, 16 or 32 tablets. The 32 ...

Advantages: very very effective ,work fast ,attractive distinctive packaging, widely available Disadvantages: a bit costly for my budget
Anadin Extra knocks the socks off its sister product, Anadin. It combines paracetamol AND aspirin in a combination that banishes pain rapidly.
I started takign Anadin Extra when I first started suffering crippling period pains, and they were also effective when I started suffering from migraines at 17. I did get some migraine medication but when that was depleted and on repeat prescription or I just couldn't find it (like 4am when I was in hallucinatory-like pain) they helped relieve the pain.
The tablets are long and slender and white, remaining easy to swallow with lots of water. They act fast, and I mean FAST. They're fairly dear, around £2.70 for a packet of 16 but they are certainly worth it.
Anadin Extra are clearly packaged in a distinctive yellow cardboard box, and packaged in silver and red blister packs.
They are widely ...
