Advantages: broad range of topics covered, great teaching and support Disadvantages: some people see geology as an easy option....its not, but it is great
...I applied to do geology at various Universities, and had the grades and offers for Bristol, Southampton and Plymouth.
I chose Plymouth because of the structure of the course, and the great friendly 'family' atmosphere I experienced when visiting and loved every moment of it.
There are several options for a geology based course you can:
(Like me) Do a Bsc Geological Sciences (3years)
Do Applied Geology (3 yrs
Do Mgeol Geology (masters course 4 years)
Do Geology with....... (eg Ocean science)
Do Earth Science
All these courses have there advantages and disadvantages, (and for the first year Geol, Applied geol, and Mgeol are identical) but for someone who knows they want to do Geology, but are not sure what area they want to specialize in I would...

Advantages: well written, comprehensive course Disadvantages: you need some self descipline to stick to the timetable
...The Level 1, DD100 course 'Introduction to Social Science - understanding social change' is a well written, comprehensive course, the material supplied covers every aspect so you don't need to buy any course books and as present there is no residential school so it is ideal for anyone who cannot commit two weeks during the summer holidays.
The course, which last 10 months, is split into seven blocks, the first being an introductory block focusing more on giving the student the basic study skills needed to progress with ease and it is therefore suitable for anyone who has been out of education for sometime as the pace in the beginning is quite relaxed. The blocks covered after the introductory block are (1) questioning identity, (2)The natural and the Social, (3) ordering lives, (4)a globalizing world?, (5)Knowledge and the social...

Advantages: Lots of flexibility in how and where you study / excellent quality Disadvantages: You must be self motivated - not always easy after a hard days work
...When I was at school I used to get really appalling grades for science. The teachers were dull and uninspiring and I found it hard to pay attention, even thought I tried really hard to concentrate. A few years later I had developed an interest in health and wellbeing and decided I'd like to learn more about human biology.
The Open Univesity seemed to be the best choice as they let you study with them despite your background and, for the aforementioned reasons, my qualifications were mainly arts based (or at the least the good ones were!). I signed up for a human biology course (SK220) and a general biology course (S203) and got to work. I was a little foolhardy, in that I didn't start with the Science Foundation course, but this was because at that point I had very specific areas of interest and hadn't realized just how far I...

Since I've reviewed virtually every Babylon 5 DVD release, I figured I may as well carry on going and aim for the clean sweep! So then, this time I'm reviewing the box set of three feature length Babylon 5 films. I must confess, I don't actually own this more
I work as a science teacher in a school. I have used this software and i think that it is outstanding. It covers the whole of Key stage 3 and it can be used for lower ability key stage 4 students.
It is extremly simple to use. It is engaging and... more
