If you suffer from mouth ulcers regularly or have had them before, you will know that they always position themselves in the worst possible place in your mouth.
They always become a beacon to anything you put in your mouth, from your toothbrush to your chicken salad sandwich.
It seems to me that there is no cure once you've got one. A bit like the common cold you can lessen the symptons but you can't get rid of the cause until it is ready to go on its own accord.

So what can you do? Suffer in pain is one option. Suffer in slightly decreased pain is the other.
I have tried various creams and gels (such as Bonjela) and none seem to do very much except cause some pain relief for a short period of time.

So, is Anbesol any different? Well, apart from sounding like a haemorrhoid cream and being a liquid rather than a cream or gel, no, it's not much different from the rest. It does numb the area of that mouth that you apply it to but that's about it. It doesn't speed up recovery and it doesn't taste of anything in particular.

One thing that is a bit difficult is actually applying it. It's a liquid. The instructions say apply the liquid to the end of your finger and then apply the liquid to the ulcer with this finger. Of course if you've ever tried to balance some liquid on the end of your finger you will know that this is easier said than done. Also, being a liquid, you can't really see where you are applying it either.
However, you WILL know if you've found the ulcer when you sudden experience the sudden pain of liquid against ulcer!
Once the liquid starts to work the pain will go and you will then be pain free for a couple of hours, after which you need to repeat the whole procedure.

Overall then it's pretty much like all the other mouth ulcer "remedies" except with this stuff everything is that much more difficult. Some may get on with it but I don't and wouldn't recommend it really. You may as well just gargle with TCP.

If anyone knows of something that DOES work I would be most interested!
