After the pain has gone there are still the horrible nappies and objects still find the way into the mouth but the pain is not there any more. Your baby can sleep and so can you!

The Anbesol is effective for about 5 years from its date of preparation, after which you are told not to use it any more.
I have found Anbesol to be a god send when my children are teething but I still need to have painkillers for all the other pains associated with growing up. ...

Advantages: Fast pain relief, easy to carry around. Disadvantages: The pain in the first place
...pharmacist, a little box of Anbesol appeared. ‘This should help’ she cheerfully announced. I handed over my £3 (ish) and hurried back to the car.
Opening the box, I found a small(approx 2.5inches high) bottle and an instruction leaflet. The bottle contains a clear, yellowish liquid that for want of a better description looks a bit like urine. Ummm, tasty?! Read instructions – Apply undiluted to the affected area with a clean fingertip. Hmmm, nowhere ... ...day, I needed to re-apply Anbesol about every two hours to keep pain at bay – but I was able to enjoy the rest of the day relatively pain free.
So what is Anbesol?
According to the box, it is an antiseptic and anaesthetic for rapid relief of mouth ulcers, teething pains and denture irritation. (It turned out I had a dental abcess, so I can confirm that it provides rapid relief from the pain they cause too!). I bought the 6.5ml liquid, but it also ...

Anbesol Liquid. This comes in two size bottles, according to the Patient Information Leaflet inside the small white box. 6.5ml, and 15ml. I have only ever seen the 6.5ml bottle though. Whats in the Box ?

Anbesol has been in production for a number of years, and I rely on it very heavily at the moment, as Georgia Grace is in so much pain, it is driving both her and me crazy. It is a clear yellow liquid, which smells quite strongly of alcohol, but, try not to be put off by the smell when you use it on babies, it does not contain enough to harm them. 96% Ethyl Alcohol sounds alot, but it is not really.
It contains active and inactive ...

...chemist was keen to recommend Anbesol liquid. Although designed primarily for teething babies, this liquid is also suitable for soothing mouth ulcer pain. The little bottle of liquid costs around £2.00, so it's not very expensive stuff, but you do have to ask the pharmacist for it. The liquid acts primarily as an anaesthetic, deadening the affected area, which effectively sooths the pain. The liquid also contains "stuff" to prevent infection.
The ... ...I would recommend Anbesol for soothing mild oral pain, but I cannot recommend it as a suitable treatment for mouth ulcers.
Oh - and I should also like to deny any liability for readers who rushed out and applied Anusol to their mouth ulcers, because they misread my review….. ...

...that someone had used Liquid Anbesol on a baby. Surely not!!! I went to my local Boots store and questioned the pharmacist, she confirmed that it's perfectly fine for babies. We've been using this since and have managed to avoid having to use other medication many times. My poor son is currently about to have his 4 eye teeth and another front tooth pop through and Anbesol is a real life saver in our household! Once it's applied, he settles immediately. ... ...both antiseptic and anaesthetic. As well as for teething problems, it's also effective for mouth ulcers. It comes in a small, predominately white and green box and contains a small bottle with 6.5 ml of 'wee coloured' liquid. This seems not a lot when the current RRP is £2.75 but it lasts far longer than the 10ml tubes of gels out there, in fact I would go as far to say that one bottle is equivalent to at least 3 tubes. The active ingredients are:
