Another fantastic book in the Eyewitness range!
I really like how these books feel. You can feel the quality in the cover, as all the pictures on the front and back are like 3D glossed, so they stand out against the background. The book is also full of reall interesting pictures, which are fantastic to scan into your computer, if you're doing work on the PC or laptop. The best picture for me is a 3D pyramid diagram which has been sliced through allowinng you to see what it would look like from both the inside and the outside.
A few years ago we were studying the Egyptians at school, a we had to do a project on AncientEgypt as a whole. I have several books from the Eyewitness range, including Eyewitness Mummy, which were really helpful. However this was by far the best book. It covers all the need to know facts, plus some really ...

Advantages: Good story, with plenty of action
Disadvantages: Too many plot strands early on
One of the first fantasy trilogies I ever read was R. A. Salvatore's "Forgotten Realms: Icewind Dale" trilogy, featuring the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden. The Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the world's seven wonders. They should be too. I am a real 'geek' when it comes to AncientEgypt, I love it since the young age of about 6 when we started learning about it at school.
Of course, one can not visit Egypt without seeing the Great Pyramid. So that is what I did, on a holiday to Sharm El Sheikh last year my boyfriend and I were a mission to pack in as much Egyptian stuff as possible. We didn't see nearly enough.
But we did see the Pyramids. We flew to Cairo from Sharm el Sheikh about a 40 minute flight on a little 30 seater, with Egypt Air (not at all scary).
From Cairo airport we were picked up by our tour guide and loaded in to a coach (about 20 years old) with air con (big plus in that heat) and made our way through the City of Cairo and out towards Giza.
It was very ...

The ancient Egyptians are an enduring source of fascination - mummies and pyramids curses and rituals have captured the imagination of generations. We all have a mental picture of ancient Egypt but is it the right one? How much do we really know about this great civilization? In this absorbing introduction Ian Shaw describes how our current ideas about Egypt are based not only on the thrilling discoveries made by early Egyptologists but also on fascinating new kinds of evidence produced by modern scientific and linguistic analyses. He also explores the changing influences on our responses to these finds through such media as literature cinema and contemporary art. Each chapter deals with a different aspect of ancient Egypt from despotic pharaohs to dismembered bodies and from hieroglyphs to animal-headed gods.
