something for the younger generation
Review of Crystal - Virginia Andrews by she_devil

Advantages: good characters
Disadvantages: too short

...I was bought this book by a friend and being a fan of Virginia Andrews, I decided to give it a try. Compared to her other works this book was tame. It contained the usual traits of an Andrews novel, romance, secrets, hidden pasts, but it was obvious that this novel was written for young teenagers and I suppose is a fitting read to introduce them into Andrews' work. I enjoyed the book, finding it hard to put down, but my personal opinion is that compared to Virginia Andrews' other novels, "Crystal" isn't as absorbing or as eventful. The story follows the life of Crystal, an orphan adopted by the Morrisses. In their home she lives a life shes always dreamed, but unfortunately the Morrisses have a skeleton in their closet and Crystals ideal world is soon shattered. Family ties
Review of Relative Strangers - Val Hopkirk by stonea

Advantages: Compelling storyline
Disadvantages: none

...When the father of two brothers, Andrew and Calum, dies, his will causes a great disturbance. Everything is left to Calum's daughter and Andrew is not pleased. Another storyline involves Andrew's baby son who has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transfusion. All the family are tested for a match and it is discovered that Calum cannot possibly be the biological father of his daughter. The family's lives are torn apart and things go from bad to worse. Can Calum's marraige survive, can Andrew's baby survive, who is now entitled to their father's inheritance. What follows is a court case, a family rift, media harrassment, and the revelation of a dreadful mistake which occured 15 years ago. This is an intriguing story, the characters are realistic, the plot compelling. Once started it is difficult to put down.... Read review
