I came across this product in Asda last week when I was looking for something to give my fine hair a bit more body. At £3.00 for 250ml I thought it wasn't too expensive and if it didn't work, as so many different products I've tried didn't, well at least I hadn't wasted too much money.
It comes in a tall cylindrical black plastic bottle with a lift off top and has a spray applicator. The words Shiny Happy Hair Andrew Barton Big Hair Lifting Juice Body Building Style Spray are written in green and white on the front of the bottle.
I must confess I've never heard of Andrew Barton but on doing some research I discovered he had been in the hairdressing business for over 25 years tending the hair of the rich and famous. His new haircare range has been sold exclusively from Asda since 2007.
***WHAT THE BLURB SAYS*** This body building power dose with wheat protein and holding polymers attaches itself to your hair shaft and helps you get maximum oomph and gloss without stickiness.
Contains wheat proteins, amino acids and holding polymers. Amino acids are absorbed by hair, while proteins coat the outer layer of the hair shaft keeping the amino acids in place. Holding polymers attach themselves to the hair and volumise from the roots for maximum oomph without stickiness.
***SO DOES IT WORK?*** Yes it does! I didn't hold out much hope after wasting so much money on products that promise thicker looking hair and fail miserably but this one does what it says. I followed to instructions to spray it onto damp, towel dried hair sparingly (well I ignored the sparingly bit), mainly concentrating on the roots and then combed my hair before blow drying it. When I say "blow dry" what I mean is I hang my head upside down and dry the hair as this gives it more volume. I noticed a rather pleasant smell from the product which reminded me a bit of almonds although not overpowering so. The fragrance lasted until I washed my hair the next day too which I've not experienced with any other hair product I've used before.
When my hair was dry it did look thicker and shiny which was an extra bonus. Upon combing it I noticed there was no stickiness or knotting of the hair like other products I've used cause. So often I've pulled out loads of hair trying to get the comb through it which defeats the object of thicker looking hair! Now I'm not talking BIG HUGE hair here but my hair did look and feel thicker than it did before using the product which pleased me greatly. Short of having extensions put in I think this is probably as good as I'm going to get with my very fine hair so, yes, I'm very happy with the result. The staying power is excellent too lasting until the next day when I washed my hair so full marks there.
***CONCLUSION*** So many differtent products I've tried have left me with still flat hair or hair that felt like candyfloss which almost broke my comb when trying to comb it out but this Big Hair Lifting Juice feels natural to the touch, combs easily and most importantly makes my hair look and feel thicker with a lovely shine to boot. So, yes, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who wants their hair to look thicker. There is no sticky residue even when, like me, you use more than recommended nor any little white dandruffy bits like some products leave and judging by the size of the bottle it should last me for quite a while.
