Nothing attracts less sympathy than a self-inflicted injury.
I wonder how many of you out there, like myself, have over indulged the night before. You know the one, you've overdone it on a combination of too much food and alcoholic drink. You wake up with a head that feels like its been bludgeoned by a house brick, and a taste in the mouth that leaves you wondering if you attempted to eat the bedroom carpet last night.
If any of this sounds familiar then please read on……
I always keep a tin of Andrews Salts in my bathroom cupboard for such an occasion, because one thing you can be certain of when all your friends say, "I told you so" you can always rely on Andrews to be your friend in your hour of need.
So what are Andrews Salts?
Andrews are made by Glaxo-SmithKline-Beechams, based on an old anti-indigestion remedy. It is available from chemists and large super markets and comes in a very distinctive blue and white tin. The lid is similar to the kind that you would find on a tin of paint, the ones that you have to lever off, and I find that the handle end of a teaspoon is perfect for this.
I have been told that the product is also supplied in a plastic oval shaped jar with a free plastic measuring spoon, but I have never seen this packaging, so wonder if perhaps it was just a trial. Inside the tin you will find a fine white crystalline powder.
A standard 250g tin contains around 40 teaspoonfuls of powder and costs about £2.95 in the Asda.
What can it be used for?
Its main uses are to reduce the effects of feeling bloated, by refreshing and revisiting the digestive system. It relieves upset stomachs, reduces the effects of hangovers and can also be used as a laxative.
Directions
To relieve the symptoms of over indulgence simply add one level teaspoonful of the powder into a glass of cold water and stir. The mixture will quickly effervesce so it is best to only fill your glass half full. For best results it is recommended to drink the mixture quickly whilst it is still fizzing.
To use as a laxative double the dosage above and add two level teaspoonfuls.
The taste is slightly lemony, but it is a very refreshing taste.
Other Information
Andrews Salts are best stored below 25 degrees C and should be kept away from strong odours. The product is not suitable for children under 3 years of age, but children over this age can be given a half dose.
I find it is definitely a useful thing to keep in my cupboard, it has a long expiry date of about 3 years so providing that you don't over indulge too often, it should last you for ages.
