Before I start, no, I dont work for angelcare! I just genuinely love this product! We bought it when our son was a newborn and he is now 2 and a half and we are still using it. It works like a normal baby monitor so picks up sounds but also has a pad which you put under the matress in the cot and it detects baby movement. So, if the baby does not move for 20 seconds then all hell breaks loose and an alarm goes off. The idea is that it picks up breathing though does specify that it cannot guarantee to pick up every movement. The only disadvantage of it is that the pad and monitir have to be 6ft apart so initially when our son slept in a cot in our room the monitor had to go in the hall as our room isn't that big! However, the monitor constantly emits a low noise beep to indicate that movement is being detected and that is very reassuring. The alrm has only gone off a handful of times on ours and it was because the little one had gotten out of bed or had rolled off the mat. You can adjust the volume if you want the beeping louder or quieter and it also tells you thge temperature of the room so you can adjust the blankets on the baby. It is charged by putting the parent unit on a charger like a phone would be, but also has battery power. As a first time and paranoid mum I find this product invaluable.
