The safest way to monitor your child is constantly breathing and will sound an alarm if ... more
there is no movement after 20 seconds. A detector sensor pad is placed under the mattress and will work with any mattress to detect the babys breathing. The parents unit acts as a normal monitor too for sound and can be sound detection only for an older child if preferred. Mains operated with battery back up. Birth + ANGELCARE MONITORS. 2 monitors in 1 Combines a quality sound monitor and a movement monitor in the same system Whether your baby is awake or asleep, the sensor pad detects all your baby's movements - even the slightest breathing movements Alarm sounds after 20 seconds if no movement Night light on baby-unit Sound-activated light display on parent unit 3 channels to minimize interference Displays room temperature (in Celsius or Fahreheit) Digital coding system to eliminate interference Voice activated system In range activator (flash and sound) to indicate if the nursery and parent unit are within range distance or not (120 m range) Adjustable sensitivity. Operates on AC adaptors (included X 2) and/or batteries (7 AAA batteries non-included) Automatically converts to batteries in case of power failure Low battery indicator FAQ: In the instruction booklet for the angel care monitor on page 4 it quotes, 'The sensor pad must rest on a completely flat and rigid surface. Place a piece of 6mm (1/4") plywood to cover the full size of the crib base. Make sure the sensor pads cord passes underneath the mattress as shown in figure 1.' Please can you explain why? Reply: We need to advise customers of this as they are not too happy when they receive the product only to find they can not use it immediately as they have to go out a buy (as it does not come free) a piece of plywood (which is not cheap either) and this is not easy for some customers to do. Manufacturer's response The piece of plywood is to keep the sensor pad in constant contact with the mattress this will avoid having false alarms. So if baby moves around the bed that piece of wood pushes the sensor pads into the mattress. The piece of plywood can be just a bit bigger than the sensor pad but at least a Ό inch thick. Also sometimes the mattress will touch all around the crib but not touch the base unless the baby is in the bed and this leave a gap between the sensor pad and the mattress when ever the baby would move around, again this will cause false alarms. Just like many people who need to buy a monitor we done our research and the fact that we already have a 2 year old child we where aware of this product. Main reasons that we chose this product over several alternatives is that this product can save your Childs life, it was voted the best product in a pregnancy magazine and we have previously used it and been very happy.
I work for the ambulance service and I am only to aware who important it is to know that your child is breathing properly. Now when your child does have difficulty in breathing or stops to breathe altogether then is really important that you realize very quickly to allow you to assist the child. Children that stop breathing or develop difficulty in breathing will stand a better chance of survival if CPR is preformed within the first few minutes.
I bought mines brand new from Argos and it cost me £59.75. Now it is available in many other places as you see below but I would advise that you buy it brand new as you will never know if it works correctly
EBay 2nd hand~ bidding tonight sitting at £19.00
EBay 2nd hand~ Buy it now at £35.00 plus £7.50 P&P
Blooming marvellous~ Brand new £ 69.99
Kiddiecare.com~ Brand new £54.99
Prices do vary so much depending on where you check, I would certainly suggest that you run a google search and get the cheapest available price.
Now when you get the item home you are desperate to open and test the functions on, but hold fire and make sure you under stand everything about this product first.
Within the box you will find~
1 x Sensor pad which comes with cable
1 x Parents unit
1 x Nursery unit
2 x 9volt Ac adapters
1 x Instruction guide.
The box is very well packed and there is absolute no chance that anything can be broken as there is a lot of cardboard within the box.
**Comments~ I was delighted with the way that Angel care was packed in its box, everything just fitted in so well. When I first opened the box I thought the quality just shows straight away. The instruction booklet is very detailed and covers all aspects of the equipment, not only does it provide you with many useful pictures there is also some reading too. Firstly it is advisable to have taken a good look over all the instructions to ensure that you know what you're doing. If you chid is still in the same room as yourself then here is no need to use the parents unit.
The sensor pad is placed underneath the mattress right in the middle of the mattress, and then the cable from that should be run underneath the actual cot/crib and plugged in to the nursery unit. From the nursery unit you the run the AC adaptor to a plug socket. When everything is in place all you need to do is put the power on and then select the correct settings.
**Please note if you have the child in another room you are required to set up the other unit (parents)
I would strongly suggest that you install the batteries to all the units as required. Both parents and nursery unit take 4 x AAA batteries. Having these batteries in will provide you with a back up in the event of a power cut.
*Comments~ I could not believe how easy it was to get the system up and running, it only taken about 5 min to make sure all the connections where in place and then a few minutes to tidy up the cables. Overall a nice and easy set up process that was made even easier with the great instruction booklet.
Nursery unit~ Nice and straight forward here, there are only a few options that you need to be concerned with.
Power on and off~ A simple button to be moved to the right or left will allow you to switch the unit on and off.
Channel selection~ two channels on these units A and B, sometimes you will need to change channels when using the parents unit as the unit may pick up other sounds. Make sure that you have both the nursery unit and the parents unit on the same channel or you will not hear your child or the alarm.
Functions~ at the rear of the nursery unit you have the choice of three different options. Sound and movement will allow you to monitor both activity's of your child, sound only is the option I would use when my child is playing in there room as this option does not monitor the child's heart beat and finally you have the option for tick off which will deactivate a ticking noise should the alarm go off.
Microphone~ situated at the from of this unit it is really important that you keep the microphone clean from dust. As if clogged up it will lose its sound.
Sensitivity dial~ this is the dial at the rear of this unit will you will need to change depending on how sensitive you want the unit to be.
**Parents unit setting**
This unit is in the shape of an angel with its very own wings and halo.
Very basic here you only have two controls on your little angel. One being a volume control on the left side as you look at it. On the right you have the channel selection along with the power on and off.
The halo is the ariel of the unit and should not be tampered with.
Down the middle of the parents unit you have 8 lights that will tell you what is happening, the top four are lights that will eliminate green when you child is making a sound or moving. Now I said 8 lights well the other four do look like lights when in fact they are holes to allow the sound to be heard.
Ac adapter point is at the rear of the unit beside the battery compartment. You also have a belt clip on this unit which you could easily attach to you to make sure you always here your baby.
**My thoughts on the units and settings**
I think the design of these units is superb especially for such a young child, they look great in the room and fit in very well with the other items that we have near to our child. The different options are very good as I know that this unit will last for a long time as I can change it to sound only when my child gets older. The settings are very easy to understand and I am sure that any new mother or father will soon be familiar with all the different options.
The part that I love has to be testing any new product that we but and I am sure that people will have fun when testing this product.
Testing the sound~ switch the nursery unit to sound only and select channel A, then select channel A on the parents unit. Get someone to talk in the room where the nursery unit is and make sure you can hear it via the parents unit. If you do not hear the person talking that well I would suggest that you change both units to B and repeat above.
Testing movement~ easy make easy nursery unit is on sound and movement and then place you hand on the mattress. If movement is detected then the unit will flash green.
Testing the alarm~ Remove your hand from the mattress and after 15 seconds you will hear a TICK and then after a further 15 seconds the alarm will sound and the unit will flash red.
Testing battery mode~ Unplug the units from the AC adapters and check to make sure that the green lights are on. If they are the batteries are fine.
When you have selected the appropriate options all you need to do is lay your child on there back in there cot/crib and then you are able to get a good night sleep knowing that angle care is monitoring your child every movement. I always double check to make sure that I have the units set on the same channels. Make sure that the batteries are working each night in case of any power cut.
The range that these units can cover is massive at 60 meters.
The sound quality is superb from these units; to be honest I am still amazed at the sounds my daughter makes when she is suppose to be sleeping. I have never experienced any interference when using these units.
"Mothers" Something to keep in mind when you get up in the middle of the night to feed your child make sure you switch the nursery unit of as the alarm will sound when you pick up your child.
Flashing red~ means there is something wrong, your child has not moved for 20 seconds. Immediate action required.
Flashing green (parent unit) mean that your child is either making a noise or moving.
Flashing orange (nursery unit) means that the sensor pad is not positioned correctly. Immediate action required to ensure that angel care can monitor your child correctly.
If at anytime you see the red light flashing and hear the alarm sounding I would suggest that you check your child immediately. I have never had any false alarms when it comes to using this product. The only time I hear the alarm sound is when me or my wife have forgotten to switch the unit off and lifted the child from her bed.
A product that is well worth the money, now I know it seems a little expensive especially when you have a new born baby but how can you possibly say that this is too expensive. I would not be without this product for anyone; I just feel that this gives you some reassurance when you are putting your baby in to cot/crib. I also like the fact that you can choose the settings yourself, in comparison to many other on the market I would say that angel care has to be my number 1. I can't think of any product that will allow you to help your child should they have any difficultly in breathing. If the alarm does sound it is always advisable to check the child, now I know we don't want to talk about this but if our child is not breathing I suggest that you pick up your child and phone 999 as soon as possible. The reason I say pick up the child as the emergency call handler is trained on how to relay cpr instructions or they can give you other instructions if needed.
Advantages: Reassuring, Easy to Use Disadvantages: Price, Can be Problematic for Some
I note there have been a few seriously negative reviews about the Angelcare Monitor given that this has been a popular top-of-the-range brand for several years now. When I bought my ex-display model back in 2005, the RRP was £55.95 and I note it hasn't changed much in the time that's passed since; neither has the model. I personally was very satisfied with this monitor though if you read on you'll soon realise why others may not have enjoyed such ... ...so much more than your basic baby monitor is basically because it has two core functions; it not only monitors sound but is also able to detect movement (including that of a newborn breathing) and alarm parents where their baby hasn't moved for more than 20 seconds. Obviously this is a tool that not only offers parents extra assurance but can actually save a baby's life.
Initially I used this as a standard baby monitor and didn't plug the pad in. ...

Advantages: easy to use, flexible, gives peace of mind Disadvantages: unable to think of any!
This product was a definite good purchase!
I was quite overwhelmed with how much choice there was in the market as to which baby monitor to buy and I settled on this one as it sounded ideal.
The product is a senor pad which detects tiny movements and will alarm after 20 seconds if there has been no movement so, for example, if your baby stopped breathing an alarm would go off after 20 seconds alerting you to this. The sensory pad is a flat square ... ...bulky or uncomfortable for the baby to lie on. The pad is attached to the monitor which is really easy to use. It has a night light- which we turn off every time we turn the pad on so we can tell just by looking if we have remembered to turn it on! it also has a light which flickers every time your baby moves but this light is only an LED one and so isn't bright enough to disturb your sleep! It also comes with a hand held monitor so you can move ...

...the extra reassurance of the angel care movement and sound monitor. The whole unit consists of a parent unit in a beautiful shape (meant to look like an angel with the handle being the halo and the on/off and volume buttons being the wings.), the baby unit shaped like a cloud and the mat that sits under your baby's mattress. ...cheapest I found was the Angel Care breathing and movement monitor. I instantly called up my catalogue (Great universal) and ordered it on express delivery. In total it cost me £80, although you can now get it from Argos for £50.
As soon as it arrived I ripped open the very decorative packaging and read the instructions. I remember thinking how cute the baby base unit was, in its little cloud shape, and how strange the parents unit looked! Soon ... ...the mattress and wired to the base unit.
There's a couple of settings. Movement, or movement and breathing, and also a silent function. Although the little clicks are a tad annoying at first, I would recommend leaving them on as they become reassuring.
How does it work?
The sensor pad under the mattress senses small breathing movements. It may need some adjusting with the sensor adjustment dial, but to be honest on a 2 1/2 inch foam baby cot mattress ...

Advantages: Peace of mind. Disadvantages: Remember to turn off when lifting baby out of cot
I knew from the outset that i would be one of those paranoid mum's constantly worrying about my baby & wondering if he was still breathing through the night, so I invested in the Angelcare monitor with movement sensor mat.
The set includes a 'baby unit', 'parent unit' & movement sensor mat. The mat is placed under baby's mattress (if like mine, the base of the cot is slatted, or you're using it in such a moses basket, then you will need to place the mat on a firm surface such as a piece of plywood under the mattress), & is so sensitive that it can detect even the lightest of breathing. The mat connects to the baby unit which then transmits to the parent unit.
If no movement (yes, even light breathing counts as movement) is detected for 20 seconds, an alarm sounds on both the baby & parent units, enabling time to get to your baby ...
Advantages: Sensor mat, not *too* expensive, no interference Disadvantages: you do forget to turn off mat when lifting baby out sometimes
a bungalow where the kitchen is quite a walk away from the baby's bedroom and so I need to be able to hear her so I can make a quick trip to see she is ok if anything troubles me over the monitor.
The basic baby monitor picks up sound from around the baby at varying degrees of sensitivity, but the Angelcare is different. It comes with a sensor mat which rests under the infant's mattress, picking up the movements of the child breathing and alerting the parents by a siren if no movement is detected. You can change the sensitivity of the mat on the unit by turning a knob although I personally tend to keep it at the highest sensitivity. Even at that I don't find myself being unnecessarily troubled by alarms; it tends to only go off when she has rolled off the mat; which has only happened one time, or when I lift her from the bed.

decided to purchase this angelcaremonitor.
what is it?
The monitor, is basically a sensor mat. This mat is extremely sensitive. It detects the smallest of movements and wil alarm if these movements stop. It is also a night light and a baby monitor.
How do you use it?
Considering how very complicated this mechanism must be to be able to detect such tiny movements I thought it would be complicated to use but it's so very simple which is lucky as when you have a newborn you don't have time to read instruction manuals!
The sensor mat- which is the size of a face cloth- is placed underneath the mattress of your baby's cot/moses basket. the matress is then replaced and you can put your baby to sleep on the mattress without them noticing the pad beneath. The pad is linked to the 'angel' which is the main body ...
