Advantages: No strain on the purse strings! It's pink! Disadvantages: Fiddly to use on hair at the back (but it's the same with similar appliances)
...dropping things. My little Angel has been a drop victim twice now! Both times on my slate bathroom floor and it's still in one piece! I also realise that some consumers may think that the tongs won't be as effective because they're cheap. Well, I can't really comment on other makes and models as these are the only ones I have ever used. But in my opinion, they are pretty darn good!
I absolutely despise my hair! You could say that I have a hate/hate relationship with it. It used to be okay; perfect infact, until I started secondry school and made the mistake of having it cut into a bob style (why my mum let this happen is beyond me!). It was downhill from then on! It was as though my hair knew that I was entering a very important time in my life! My teen years were in sight and it seemed determined to make these few precious years a living hell (this is not an exaggeration)!
My hair is very thick with a natural curl/wave but if I just blow dry it, then I tend to look like a bad '80's pop/rock star or Pat Sharpe! As I'm sure you can imagine, it's really a very bad look! Awful!
If I want poker straight hair then I use my hair straighteners (obviously!) However, straight can be boring and I have always wanted to be able to dry my own hair so that my natural curls look nice and pretty - not frizzy! Anyway, one lazy Sunday afternoon, as I was idely flicking through the new Argos catalogue I stumbled upon a bright pink page advertising lots of Carmen products. It was like a young teenager's heaven! Ok, now I know that I'm 25 now, but I'm making up for the damage caused by my Wild Woman of Borneo look that defined me in the early '90's! So, this heavenly pink page was great and best of all it had curling tongs! The unfortunate thing was that I had no money to speak of, although these are very cheap at £19.99 (you can get them cheaper if you shop around). Christmas was just around the corner so I put a request in with Santa Claus and I knew I had been a good girl all year, so I was quietly confident that I would have myself a very curly Christmas....and I did!
Now for the details:
The tongs are are quite large but extremely light weight. The plastic handle is a pale pink colour with a grey on/off switch. The handle also has a lip around it which act as feet for when the tong is on but not in use. Then you've got a grey lever. You press this to lift the end up and release it to grip once you have placed the end of your section of hair underneath it. This lever also has arrows on it to show you which direction you need to be twisting your hair! I know that may sound like a silly thing to mention but they are very useful little arrows! Another handy feature is the red dot on the end of the lever which basically acts as your temperature guide. When the dot turns from red to brown you are good to go! Then you have got the 'barrel' section (the bit you wrap around) which is in a hot pink colour and is made from ceramic which means that it's apparently more gentle on the hair, although from my experience of using ceramic hair straighteners, this is not the case - I have the split ends to prove it! Now, this barrel also has raised, grey plastic 'guides' spiralling around the length of it so that you can twist your hair around it evenly - this is a great feature as allows consistency with the size of your curls. It definitely helps me! At the very top of the barrel you have a clear plastic removeable 'reservoir' which you fill with water before plugging the appliance in. This is another great design - you just wrap your hair around the barrel between the guides and press the top of the spring loaded reservoir 2 to 3 times during the 30 seconds or so that you keep your hair gripped. This then releases steam so you can set the curls but I find it better with a bit of hairspray afterwards, especially if you are going out for a day or if you have got a long night out ahead of you!
The instruction leaflet is reasonably straight forward but actually using this appliance is a sinch anyway. My only gripe (which has nothing to do with the tongs) is that my hair is so thick it takes me a good 35 - 40 minutes to complete the look. Half of this time is spent just on my hair at the back. It's a bit fiddly when you can't see what you are doing and looking in the mirror doesn't help either! Give yourself plenty of time. Forward planning is a must if you want to make a half decent job of it.
The main positive factor about this item is that it's so cheap in comparison to some of the others on the market, mainly because it's aimed at younger girlies and isn't endorsed by a famous hairdresser. If you are thinking of investing in a set of curling tongs don't discard these just because they are cheap and therefore possibly, well rubbish! They actually seem to be made from fairly robust plastic. Well, they would have to be for me; I'm quite clumsy and always dropping things.
Advantages: Creates cool curls! Looks nice and is easy to use. Disadvantages: The curls don't stay in very long.
...kinda reminded you of an angel with a lovely curly ringlets - I mean, amazing. Anyway, that's what it reminded me of. Second was the look - very girly and pink. Lovely :) The price of 'Angel Curls' is either £19.99 or, if you buy it in the sales (or in a market or somewhere), it's usually around £14.99. Now, this is quite good for curling tongs (as some of you may know) which did make me wonder whether they were any good. I decided to wait and ask ... ...understand without feeling patronised) that Angel Curls is unlike anything else and it will take a bit of time to get the hang of using it. It really didn't take me that long though. You basically clip a section of your hair into place at the bottom of the barrel and wind it up. Then, you hold it for about 15-20 seconds, depending on the thickness of your hair, and unwind & unclip it! Simple. A beautiful bouncy ringlet! You repeat this with the rest ...

Advantages: You get lovely curls, they're a good price Disadvantages: Takes a lot of time
I first bought these curling tongs about three years ago. I had been looking for some decent tongs for a while as I was fed up of using hair rollers. I was instantly attracted to the carmen girls tongs; probably due to the fact that they were very pink and girly! I had read about them before though and I knew that Carmen was a good make. They looked fairly easy to use and they were a good price too, I think they were around £15.
The tongs came in ... ...who has used the tongs; there are also some small diagrams which show you how to use them.
Luckily inside the box there were some detailed instructions on how to use them.
Before you use the tongs you need to fill the water reservoir with water; this then goes onto the end of the barrel, you have to give it a turn clockwise and then it fixes into place.
Once you have done this you can plug it in and switch it on, when the heat-ready dot changes ...

Advantages: luscious curls, cheap price Disadvantages: curls dont stay in for long
...girls.com and they are called angel curls, they was an advertisement for these ages ago, some may think these are a bit juvenile but no matter what your age I feel that these curling tongs will provide luscious curls that you will love.
The tongs themselves arrived and they are pink in colour with a curly barrel in the middle on the tong where you curl your hair, so here goes for my test run.
Testing-
I find that with my hair being straight when ... ...my hair better if my hair is a bit greasy, not like a chip pan, but not flyaway as the curls will just drop out.
So firstly I have my dry greasy(ish) hair and I trap my hair in the end of the tong by pressing the button up and putting my hair in the tong. I then wind my hair around the barrel and then press the top of the tong for steam, leave it for two-three minutes and then I release the tong.
I have a luscious curl, how fabulous! I then start ...

Advantages: The steam setting helps set the curl and the size of the curl is perfect Disadvantages: A bit difficult to get the hang of to start with , especially if looking in the mirror!
...I saw the Carmen Angel Curls product on Boots.com for the bargain price of £14.99 and decided to give it a go. I thought this was a very good price and a lot cheaper than other curling tongs but I think it's because they're really aimed at younger girls (13-16) who wouldn't be able to afford more expensive tongs. Although they're aimed at the younger market (with the bright packaging and pink handle) they're just as good as other 'grown-up' tongs ... ...my dressing table with my Angel Curls in hand. I'd flicked through the instruction book briefly (which looks very comprehensive) but they look pretty self-explanatory so I just got stuck in.
All you have to do is get a small section of hair, clip it to the bottom of the tong and then carefully wind the rest of the section around the tong. There are even 'guides' on the tong to make sure your curls are even. Once the hair is wrapped around there ...

Advantages: Gives a great natural curl to straight hair. Disadvantages: Lasts longer if you use products to keep the curl and the name is really tacky!!!
...curls I was hooked on Angel Curls. I was down at Argos the very next day getting one for me and one for a friend!!
Carmengirls Angel Curls is an easy to use hair curler which creates natural looking ringlet style curls for short to long hair. It is a shame it is bright pink and has the name "Angel Curls" as this is really tacky but I think it was originally created for younger users as it is so easy to use.
The curler has an easy grip handle and ... ...move around and change the direction of the curls. It has in-built hair guides, you hold the hair in the tong section at the bottom of the curler and twist the curler until all the hair has been guided in sections to the roots. You do this section by section until your whole head of hair is a beautiful mane of flowing curls!!!
Depending oh how long and thick your hair is will depend on how long it takes but for my hair, and I do have a lot, it takes ...

Advantages: After first attempt is really simple to use, with a shot of steam to help seal hair in place. Disadvantages: Takes a while to heat up, only curls small strands of hair well.
Since the new look has moved from dead straight hair to beautiful curls I thought I should give it a try. I naturally have curly hair, except it frizzes when its brushed, o I wanted to use a curler that would give me silky ringlets, and I'd seen the Big Brother girls using them and there hair went lovely, and the pictures on the box showed great "angelcurls", so I gave them a try.
The first time I used them I wasnt very impressed. I don't have thick hair, so it's not difficult to curl, but it was taking ages for the ringlets to appear. You can only use very small strands of hair as well, so I was spending hours trying to get one strand to look remotely like a ringlet. By the time I had finished, the half of my head I'd done first had already dropped out and so I found myself having to re-touch.
I have used them since ...

Along with my GHD's, and various other electrical hair equipment I also have CarmenGirlAngelCurls for those times that I want a real curl or ringlet effect to my hair. My GHD's are great for giving a flicked effect, and light curl, but I find AngelCurls perfect for a real twist or tight curl.- AngelCurls came boxed in a girly looking black and pink flowered box. It looks to me from the presentation that this hair product is aimed at the teenager, being pink, girly, and flowery. There is also a picture of a young teenage girl upon the box displaying loose ringlets upon her head.
