The marriage of Marcia and Curt Ratheter seemed idyllically happy. But one fateful day in 1931 brought Marcia's world tumbling about her ears and left her and her two daughters bereft. Barty Bendall had always loved her, he said; and the girls needed a father. Marcia moved to Blackburn with him where she tried to forget the past. Barty, though, sank into bad ways, tyrannising the family. In particular, he would vent his aggression on Polly, Curt and Marcia's first-born, blonde as an angel but afflicted since birth with an ominous shadow over her health. Even in troubled times, lovely raven-haired Marcia was a fighter. But news that Curt Ratheter had reappeared would render her helpless prey to wildly conflicting emotions. Set among a close-knit community in pre-war Lancashire, ANGELS CRY SOMETIMES brims with heartbreak and joy, hardship and indomitable spirit, that will hold the reader enthralled. ...If you like Catherine Cookson then you will love the novals by
JosephineCox. Most of her novals are set in the 18th Century. Whistledown Woman is perfectly written and concentrates on a little girl named Starlena,
named after the gypsy that took her in when her father gave her away
at birth, as he thought his wife had been unfaithful.
As Starlena grows up into a beautiful woman, she learns the secrets
of her parentage and where the beautiful brooch pinned to her shawl
came from. Her gypsy mother has always been afraid of of Starlena
finding out the truth and who is the person locked away in the Asylum.
Any JosephineCox book is worth every penny....
