My views
The description is enough to chill your bones. It is very absorbing, interesting and very violent ,more so than The Da vinci code. According to Dan Brown The brotherhood of Illuminati is factual and so are the various references to all works of Art, tombs,Tunnels and Architecture in Rome, which can still be seen today. A little background to the Illuminati - Illuminati was the first scientific think tank founded by a group of brilliant Physicists , Mathematicians, Astronomers , and some of the most enlightened men in Italy in the 1500's, sharing their concern about the church's monopoly on 'Truth' , which they felt threatened the academic enlightenment around the world. The group was meeting in secrecy and spreading the message of science and enlightenment .
But when the church closed in on them, they went deep underground, where they mixed with other refugee groups like the Alchemists , Occulties , Fanatic Muslim groups and fanatic Jews. This completely changed their original concern and outlook. And over a period of time a new darker Illuminati emerged. They were very powerful and very very dangerous. They began infiltrating into every system in the world and this was their major powerhouse. The old Illuminati had Galileo and Bernini , who were both considered to be the pillars of Illuminati. No doubt the story is very absorbing, but i am not at all sure whether any of Dan Brown's stories are healthy for one's mind.I like to read a racy suspenseful thriller, but graphic violence and satanic doings are definitely not something that I would like to read on a regular basis.
There are references to Leonardo da Vinci , who supposedly had gathered his expertise on human form by exhuming human corpses and dissecting their musculature ( sic ! ) well what can one say to that !
I was also completely unaware that the world wide web was invented by the Swiss and not Americans as it is usually presumed. Somewhere when quizzed about this Maximilian Kohler the chief of CERN shrugs it off as a petty misconception over a petty technology ! Dan Brown's account of the persistent BBC lights following the action was highly amusing , adding some lighter touch to what is otherwise a very scary fiction. There are ample references to the architectural delights of Rome and Vatican . The climax somehow did not live upto my expectations, reading more like a film script.
But I do recommend this super suspenseful thriller because it is easily one of the most chilling book I have read
Advantages: fast paced, factual Disadvantages: no great literary masterpiece
Dan Brown is a household name. His fame came quickly, after the release of his novel 'The Da Vinci code'. You would be mistaken, however, if you thought that it was his first work.In fact, 'Angels', was completed a full three years before 'code', in the year 2000. It only became popular as people searched through his older works having read 'The Da Vinci code'. The book is a prequel to 'code', and is similar in style and direction. Both feature the ... ...the belief in God. Both are researched incredibaly well, to give plausible explanations to events from long ago. Both are written in a simple, easy to follow style. Both are good, but not great. In 'angels', we follow how Robert Langdon is called in to help the vatican police find and stop a potential spate of murders from happening within the church. Langdon is a symbologist, and appears to have infinite knowledge of the historical feud between ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Angels and Demons - Dan Brown"
Advantages: Fantastically written, brilliant story line and leaves you wanting more. Disadvantages: Certain parts might not be for the faint hearted.
I can no longer count on one hand how many times i have picked up Angels and Demons and red it cover to cover. Everytime that i read it i get something new from the book. I think that the way DanBrown writes is incredible and even though i know what is coming, his words still have me nail bitingly sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation. In my opinion the storyline in Angels and Demons is incredible, although you don't want to quite believe that it could be true, i found myself weeks after still wondering if it really could happen. DanBrown has a way of writing that makes me really feel like i am there in the book and was involved with the story, i found myself gasping and was fully animated while reading the book. The story is both foul and brilliant at the same time, it had me cringing and disgusted about some of the things ...
Advantages: Gripping plot, Excellent characters, Brilliant insight into CERN and Rome Disadvantages: The short chapters and Brown's overall style won't be to everyone's taste.
After being captivated by DanBrown's highly controversial 'The Da Vinci Code', I had assumed that 'Angels and Demons' would be the tame sister of this media beast.
Set predominantly in Rome, 'Angels and Demons' is a real time story following Havard professor Robert Langon and Vittoria Vetra, a high level scientist at the CERN complex in Switzerland. As events unfold, the stakes are risen page by page. 'Angels and Demons' is a thrilling read, forcing you into its dangerous, devastating plot and never for one moment letting you go. Be warned, you will begin to believe the book comes coated in glue, such is the difficulty one has in putting it down!
From the very beginning, the few but in-depth characters are presented to the reader. Langdon, already familiar to most through 'The Da Vinci Code' is awoken by a mysterious caller in ...

Manufacturer's product description
It takes guts to write a novel that combines an ancient secret brotherhood, the Swiss Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, a papal conclave, mysterious ambigrams, a plot against the Vatican, a mad scientist in a wheelchair, particles of anti-matter, jets that can travel 15,000 miles per hour, crafty assassins, a beautiful Italian physicist and a Harvard professor of religious iconology. It takes talent to make that novel anything but ridiculous. Kudos to Dan Brown (Digital Fortress) for achieving the nearly impossible. Angels and Demons is a no-holds-barred, pull-out-all-the-stops, breathless tangle of a thriller--think Katherine Neville's The Eight (but cleverer) or Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum (but more accessible).Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is shocked to find proof that the legendary secret society, the Illuminati--dedicated since the time of Galileo to promoting the interests of science and condemning the blind faith of Catholicism--is alive, well, and murderously active. Brilliant physicist Leonardo Vetra has been murdered, his eyes plucked out and the society's ancient symbol branded upon his chest. His final discovery, anti-matter, the most powerful and dangerous energy source known to man, has disappeared--only to be hidden somewhere beneath Vatican City on the eve of the election of a new pope. Langdon and Vittoria, Vetra's daughter and colleague, embark on a frantic hunt through the streets, churches and catacombs of Rome, following a 400-year-old trail to the lair of the Illuminati, to prevent the incineration of civilisation. Brown seems as much juggler as author--there are lots and lots of balls in the air in this novel, yet Brown manages to hurl the reader headlong into an almost surreal suspension of disbelief. While the reader might wish for a little more sardonic humour from Langdon and a little less bombastic philosophising on the eternal conflict between religion and science, these are less fatal flaws than niggling annoyances--readers should have no trouble skimming past them and immersing themselves in a heck of a good read. "Brain candy" it may be, but it's tasty. --Kelly Flynn, Amazon.com --This text refers to the Paperback edition. Another near-future technothriller from the author of Digital Fortress (1998). Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon gets a call from Maximilian Kohler, director of CERN's Geneva particle-physics research complex. Physicist Leonardo Vetra has been murdered, and a quantity of dreadfully dangerous antimatter stolen; worse, Vetra was branded with a single word: Illuminati. Langdon's an expert on the history of the Illuminati, a medieval pro-science, anti-Catholic power group, often suspected of infiltrating mighty institutions but now considered extinct. The canister of antimatter soon turns upin Rome, hidden somewhere in Vatican City, just as the church's cardinals are gathering to select a new pope. When the canister's batteries go deadboom. As bad, someone's kidnapped the four top cardinals, and a message from the Illuminati states that one cardinal will be killedwith lots of Illuminati symbolismevery hour until the antimatter explodes. Langdon and Vetra's scientist daughter, Vittoria, must convince the late pope's chamberlain, now in charge of the Vatican until the new pope is elected, to help them unravel the mysteries of the Illuminati and, perhaps, save the cardinals from gruesome deaths. But they'll be going up against a wily and potent Illuminati assassin, causing plenty of thrilling cat-and-mouse maneuvers and life-or-death cliffhangers. And how come the powerful head of the Illuminati knows all the Vatican's secrets, and can enter and leave at will?Romance, religion, science, murder, mysticism, architecture, action. Go!
