It is bad enough trying to cope with being a teenager, Georgia Nicolson's problems go way ... more
beyond the average in Louise Rennison's debut novel for children--a kind of Bridget Jones does "Top Shop" and just as funny.Georgia relates her tales of love, life and full frontal snogging through her diary, a format that in this case works like a dream. Georgia not only has to cope with the hormonal roller coaster that refuses to stop, but fears that she might be a lesbian and her dad might be a transvestite. Of course, Georgia is seeing the world through her naive eyes and seems to get every situation hopelessly wrong--not so good for her but great for the reader who is treated to an hilarious account of a few months in the life of typical teenager.Rennison's prose crackles with energy and enthusiasm and her voice is so painfully authentic that at times you feel almost guilty, as if you are secretly peering into the pages of a real person's diary. But it is the author's razor sharp humour that will keep you hooked and, at times, virtually crying with laughter as Georgia stumbles from one mid-teen crisis to the next, such as an unfortunate incident with a pair of tweezers and some eye liner pencil. Her cringe-inducing encounters with boys, especially her over-friendly cousin, cause just as many problems as what she should do with her hands while engaging in a heavy kissing session.Angus, Things and Full-Frontal Snoggingis a smart, sharp and very funny book, superbly written and acutely observed--please Ms Rennison, can we have some more? Funny, mad and weird - Georgia has landed!!
Advantages: Funny, well written and as promised on the cover - you will laugh your knickers off! Disadvantages: Not long enough.
This is the first in the hilarious series by Louise Rennison.
When I first picked up the book, I have to admit the cover was the thing I was most transfixed with. The picture above must be a newer cover, because usually they have cartoon drawings on them and are in eye watering shades that attract attention. I'll post a picture of the better known, more common cover with this review.
This particular book in the series ... ...and cartoon style pictures ofahandbag, heart and a kiss on the front, and a cat on the back alon with the blurb.
I thought as soon as I saw the book "This is going to be fun." And guess what. It was!
I tells the story of loveable teen Georgia Nicolson, who is convinced the world is conspiring against her. Rennison's writing style is hilarious, and I really think it was a good move to write this book in diary ... more

This particular book in the series has a flourescent orange cover, with the title in pink and cartoon style pictures ofahandbag, heart and a kiss on the front, and a cat on the back alon with the blurb.
I thought as soon as I saw the book "This is going to be fun." And guess what. It was!
I tells the story of loveable teen Georgia Nicolson, who is convinced the world is conspiring against her. Rennison's writing style is hilarious, and I really think it was a good move to write this book in diary form. It allows her to do things like this....
10:30 p.m Heard Mutti and Vati arguing. Oh perfect, now they'll split up and they'll both want custody of me.
10:40 p.m If I go with Mum I will have acess to make-up, clothes, and so on, and I can usually persuade her to let me stay out later. She laughs at my jokes and goes out a lot. On the other hand there is Vati.
10:42 p.m Ah well, bye bye, Vati...
The book follows this comic pattern, and the storyline is mainly based around her group of friends called the Ace Gang and their search for boys and to complete different stages of the snogging scale.
The snogging scale is a particularly clever invention of Rennison's, which is basically a sort of extended version of the bases thing (first base holding hands, second base kiss etc). The snogging scale is from on to ten and is explained fully in the book, but is ingenious as Georgia and her friends can say "We did number four" on the phone and their parents don't know what they mean.
Georgia is mostly trying to get together with lead singer of the Stiff Dylans band, Robbie during the book. Georgia is fourteen and Robbie is seventeen which is one obstacle. The other is that Robbie already has the perfect girlfriend - nicknamed Wet Lindsay by the gang, she is a thong wearing girl with a large forehead and stick insect legs who is determined to keep Robbie at all costs.
Meanwhile, Georgia's best friend Jas is trying to get together with Robbie's younger brother Tom, which, although the whole book revolves around Georgia and is told from her point of view, is a great subplot.
All this coupled with their hatred of their all girls school and their avoidance of Wet Lindsay (who is prefect) Hawkeye (one of their sharp eyed, girl hating teachers) Slim (their large bodied headteacher who wobbled from head to foot if angry) Herr Kamyer (their crazy German teacher with a limited concept of English and none of young girls) and Elvis (the bad tempered janitor). Rennison makes these characters equally hilarious, and yet all of them are different, which makes the book even better.
This is a crazy, upbeat book which I enjoyed from start to finish. I would definately recommend it.

Review of Angus, Thongs and full frontal Snogging - Louise Rennison
Advantages: one of the most funny books ever! Disadvantages: you might pee yourself you laugh so hard!
Angus, thongs and full frontal snogging, you may think that this is a sex book designed for women over the age of 16 from the title, but it is actually a teenage comedy book, (but you would be right in thinking that it is a women’s book) about a cat that cannot control who he gets pregnant (Angus the cat), thongs - seeing your enemy wear them, and never having snogged a member of the opposite sex before; so that you go insane and end up having snogging ... ...to go to an all-girl’s school because her parents want her to go there. They have to wear berets at the school and Georgia and her friends are always coming up with silly ideas about wearing them differently just to annoy the teachers; especially the caretaker and gardener Elvis, which they just lurve to wind up and torture.
Boys and Thongs
It starts off having her best friend, jazzy (who is completely insane) falling in love with someone who works ...

Advantages: laugh out loud fun Disadvantages: you may laugh till you pee!!
...even more embarassement. Then theres Angus, the family cat, who quite frankly is pretty warped and thinks its a dog.
Her friends are just as bad and between the lot they get themselves into some hilarious situations, from dressing as a human olive to chasing the sex god himself - Robbie.
Not wanting to give too much away, i can't really tell you much more but i will tell you that this is by far the funniest book i have ever read! Its very easy ... ...strongly recommend you rush out and buy it.
It can be purchased from any book shop for around £5.99 (soft back) to £10.99 (hard back). There are also the sequels to look out for which are just as good - Dancing in my nuddy Pants Knocked out by my nunga nungas
And thats when it fell off in my hand It's ok, im wearing really big knickers.
Rush out and get them now!!! ...

Advantages: eye catching cover, hilarious, easily read, great review scores & part of a series Disadvantages: um.....
Confessions of Georgia Nicolson - Angus(the cat), thongs (1 of her many disasters) and full frontal snogging(see the score board!).
I got this book for a holiday and thought it would be perfect as it had got brilliant reviews and i love teenage fiction so i was sat on the aeroplane opened the book and within the 1st few minutes of reading it i had got thousands of funny looks from laughing out loud so loudly! Make sure you read this alone, seriously ... ...It is all about the life of Georgia Nicholson, a 16 year old girl at the age where the only thing that matters is the way she looks and boys. Obviously as anyone could of guessed there are a few obstacles that can get in the way of her love conquests 1 being her crazy wild cat Angus who creates about as much havoc as a recking ball! And her younger sister libby who insists on sleeping in Georgia's bed and making hamocs for her dolls out of sanitary ...

Advantages: Hilarious and everyone can realate to it in someway Disadvantages: wasn't long enough!
My friend gave me this book after she had read it and at the time it looked funny but had read similar books which were all the same and used the same plots and jokes so did not jump into reading it straight away, however having just finished my exams i needed something to read as the good weather crept through i put on a pair of shorts and headed for the back garden like any brit and in scotland sun and warmth is even more alien so i took the opportunity. ... ...laughed that night when i suggested to my sister to read it so i warn you perhaps not a book to read on the bus between the bright yellow front cover with 'Angus, thongs and full frontal snogging on the front' and the kind of laughing out loud that will get you heavy stares from all angles on the bus (exept from the person behind you who is probably resorted to reading it over your shoulder and therefore may also be laughing).
Anyway, this book ...

Advantages: Absoloutley hilarious Disadvantages: No where near long enough
I got this book for my 15th birthday and when I first opened it my first impression was "you shouldn't have" but I thought I'd give it a chance and I'm really glad that I did. If you've got any female relatives, or even male between the ages of 13-18 then this is the book I'd reccomend to get them.
Witty and realistic this is a book that most teenage girls can relate to. The main character Georgia really is an icon. This book explores the day to ... ...in a rather bizarre world of scottish cats, berrets, french language and of course love. There's something about the way this book is written that makes it seem as if your actually on the phone to Georgia and she's telling you about her day, it's a great read and I could not put it down once I'd started. I've read it 3 times since and it gets better each time, I've also brought the follow ups, hilariously titled "It's OK I'm Wearing Really Big Knickers", ...
