What's up with my Dog?
Review of RSPCA What's Up With My Dog - Bruce Fogle by
morphcat
Advantages: reasonably priced and covers main symptoms shown by sick dogs
Disadvantages: there are none
This has proved to be a very useful little book for those moments over a weekend when the vet is not available and your dog is showing alarming symptoms. There is a different section for every symptom and a very useful overview of what might be wrong with your dog. There is then an even more useful section which asks you questions about exactly what the dog is doing. eg Is he vomitting blood? Yes/No and you then follow the path which fits most closely ... ...there is a suggestion as to what action should be taken eg see vet within 24 hours; or reassuringly, your dog can be treated at home.
It is particularly useful for new dog owners whose dog has not built up a repertoire of symptoms which you recognise. It is all too easy to panic and call out the emergency vet in the early days of dog ownership when all he has is a simple case of diarrhoea which can easily be treated at home. This book could save ...

Review of Where to Watch Birds Scotland - Mike Madders by
micksheff
Advantages: Lots of useful information
Disadvantages: Quite large and bulky, expensive
Where to watch birds in Scotland by Mike Madders and Julia Welstead is part of the Where to Watch Birds guides that covers 21 different titles. Each of these books have different authors but they all follow the same format which has proved so successful that they are now amongst the best selling bird books ever published. Where to watch birds in Scotland has been described as "The definitive guide to finding birds in Scotland" and first published ... ...is merely a guide to where to find the many different diverse birds that occur in Scotland. There is a list of the species that one can expect to see at each of the sites covered and there is also useful information about access to those sites. Of greatest importance to the avid birdwatcher or anyone with an interest in birds is that this book provides information where some of Scotland's rarest birds can be found. For example Loch Ruthven is included ...

Very Valuable Resource
Review of New Encyclopedia of the Horse - Sharon Lucas by
Numando
Advantages: Quick and Easy to use; very useful; good information
Disadvantages: Quite large, takes up space around the house
The new encyclopedia of a horse book is a fantastic, and extremely useful and educational tool, not even just for horse-related families. These are valuable things to have around, especially for kids, if they want to know something, are looking something up or even just doing a school project it is a quick and easy way to do thisIt is also very well organised which makes any information you need to find quick and simple to look for. I would recommend ...

Marley & Me - Essential Reading
Review of Marley and Me - John Grogan by
stone17
Advantages: Very funny! Well written, easy read!
Disadvantages: Mascara stained cheeks at the end!
...my head the situations that Marley got himself into. I would recommend this to any dog owner or dog lover, although i'm sure that many other people would also find this a very enjoyable read.
It was very easy to read and follow and very entertaining!
Marley is a very loveable character and the fact that it is a true story just makes it all the more interesting.
As funny as the start of the book is, the end is equally sad. I found myself crying ...
