I was window shopping online a little while ago for a new backpack, and after one bum purchase (Mi-Pac), I opted for an Animal one with good reviews. It helped convince me to get it when I noticed it was on sale, and I’ve been very happy with it so this one gets a thumbs up from me.… The Brand & Range …
Animal is a very popular brand, often associated with more sporty/skating/youthful notions. Their ever expanding range caters for a wide variety ofThe ‘Succeed’ range of backpacks are available from Amazon in three variations: Asphalt Grey, Black and Midnight Blue. The designs are quite novel and eye-catching, especially the former, which I opted for.
… The Spec …This is classed on Amazon as a ‘school backpack’, though I think it’s unfortunate to pigeonhole it like that. Yes, it could be suitable for school, but it’s a great rucksack for adults too and various purposes. In fact, I’d say this caters well to the grown-up market, with a design that’s modern and colourful yet more sophisticated than it is gareish. The bag can fit A4 folders, and comes with a front pocket, main zipped section, and internal zip pocket for smaller bits and pieces.
… Lookin’ Good …The bag has a colourful feather design on the front and the straps (both sides of these), with mostly shades of pinks, purples and oranges, with some darker tones thrown in. I’m not a fan of pink, but find the variation of colours here quite acceptable on my hate-pink spectrum. It’s colourful and eye-catching without being too gaudy, modern without being young or tacky. Both the design and colours are good quality; the pattern looks vibrant and hasn’t shown any sign of wear or fading as of yet. Admittedly, I’ve only had the bag a couple of weeks and it hasn’t suffered too much brash usage, but from what I can see so far, I would like to think it would last and wear well.
… In Use …When the bag arrived, I could tell it would be a far better one than the Mi-Pac I had ordered before. Whilst the canvas type material is fairly stiff, it’s by no means too stiff (I’m refraining from a rude comment here!) so it sits well when it’s on your shoulders. The straps are comfortable and you can easily put a reasonable weight in the bag without them digging in at all. Each strap has the usual adjustable part, which I find gives ample variation in the length of the straps. The rucksack feels sturdy too, so I wouldn’t be too concerned with putting more weight in there, such as with a Macbook or bunch of library books. It is also a good size for such things, so I can fit plenty of ‘stuff’ in there.
The zips are secure and just right in terms of zipping across; not too easy that I worry someone could unzip them without my knowledge and steal the rubbish (or should I say ‘very important things’) in my bag, but not too difficult that it becomes frustrating or tricky. Would I like them a little smoother to zip? Possibly, yes. I like the positioning, size and ease of use of both the pocket on the front and on the inside, and the inside has a decent lining that doesn’t appear to be easy to rip, which is always a good sign with a bag.… Overall …
All in all, given the price I paid at under £15, I’m pretty pleased with this backpack. I can’t find fault with it; it looks funky (and very different to the usual black and bland that I go for), it’s comfortable to wear & sits well, and is good quality to bear a reasonable weight.RRP £22 - currently selling on Amazon for £12.
