A wonderful book

Advantages: lots of information, divided into themes, useful homework tool or project resource, excellent for filling in information after trips to museums etc
Disadvantages: Younger ones will need parental help
...Dorling Kindersley are one of the world's best publishers of non-fiction books for children. At one time, I used to sell them to parents and playgroups, but sadly they stopped that area of their business. However, that does not mean that I stopped loving their books. Theirs are the books that children will come back to for factual information on a variety of topics - they are brightly illustrated and full of information.
"The Victorians" by Ann Kramer is one such book, a dip-into for help with homework, or for a project, giving an insight into many aspects of Victorian life - the transport of the day, social reform, industry, inventions. It is a mine of information and it's pages can be used as additional information for museum trips and all sorts.
This book would be most helpful to the 9-12 age range, although some chldren...

Anne Frank - The Definitive Edition?

Advantages: Unbiased, lively and interesting account.
Disadvantages: There are various editions, each giving a different reflection of Anne as a person.
...The Diary of Anne Frank has reached universal acclaim. Written by a thirteen year old Jewish girl while she and her family hid in a secret annexe in Amsterdam, to avoid being captured by the Gestapo, the diary provides an interesting, lively and straight forward account of life for the young girl during the first few years of World War Two. However, as there are varous different editions of the diary it is not only the content of the diary which is questionable, but also the authenticity of the account. This surely allows Holocaust Revisionists to strengthen their argment, namely that the Holocuast did not take place?
I believe that, for those truly interested in The Dairy of Anne Frank, the Critical Edition of the diary provides most interest. This incorporates all three editions and allows the reader to compare the alterations...
