...This is another delightful book by Julia Donaldson. She is best known for her collaborations with illustrator Axel Scheffler resulting in books such as 'The Gruffalo' and 'Room on the Broom'. In 'One Ted Falls Out of Bed' she has collaborated with a different illustrator - Anna Currey - and the result is that the 'feel' of the book is entirely different, although equally good! 'One Ted Falls Out of Bed' tells the charming story of a little teddy, who unfortunately one night, falls out of bed! This is hardly surprising given the title of the book! As this happens on the first page though, what the story is really about is what happens once he has fallen out of bed and his ensuing attempts to get back into bed! In fact quite a lot happens and he meets various toys. Every time something happens there is a cumulative effect which helps... Read review

Advantages: Fantastic and unique plot, excellent characters, extremely stylish

...Striking. That's the word that Anna Franklin's best friends use to describe her appearance when she goes missing and it also describes Mapping The Edge perfectly. The most striking thing about this novel is that it's a thriller in two parts: when Anna goes missing, there are two versions of what happens to her. Anna goes missing when visiting Florence, without telling her best friends (Stella, who lives in Amsterdam, and Paul, who's the gay surrogate father to her daughter) and her daughter, Lily. Stella flies to Anna's London home to take care of Lily and attempt to contact Anna, facing the possibility that Anna might not come home. Dunant focuses on the horror of missing people by telling Stella's side of the story in the first person, rather than Anna's. She disproves the old adage that ignorance is bliss as Stella and Paul imagine... Read review

Advantages: well written, dramatic

...An excellent book from Anna jacobs, full of drama, excitement and sorrow. A book to enjoy, curled up by the fire or spread out on the beach. i used a whole box of tissues while reading this book. The rest of the books in this series are excellent too. The main character is a woman with a determined character, modern women could take a few tips from her. I read this book in 1 night as once started i couldnt stop reading till i reached the end. I felt as though after reading it any problems in my own life were minor and i was thankful i born in this century. Any one who likes history and a strong story line will love this book. I thoroughly recommend reading Anna Jacobs.... Read review
