Anne Rice does not produce your average run-of-the-mill vampire story. Her work is carefully crafted and integrates several themes that directly affect the reader as a human being. She writes of conflict, of sexual desire, of lust and of beauty; she evokes the sense of longing with passionate skill, and her writing truly takes on a life of its own. I first began reading the works of Anne Rice when I was 13. I was a curious child, and having read ... ...unfamiliar with the works of Anne Rice, 'Interview' would be a good starting point. Reccurent themes in general seem to be sexuality, religion, the seeking of answers and to an extent, love. The books are well-written and sensual, as you can feel the smooth coldness of the vampires' skin, the clothes tharacters wear, and you can sympathise with characters, as Rice lets us see the world through a Vampire's eyes. The follow up to 'Interview' was 'Lestat', ...

Advantages: An excellent read, hard to put down and transports you to a different world Disadvantages: You may neglect your family
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice will without doubt be one of the most memorable pieces of fiction in its genre this century. I originally read this book in the eighties, long before it became famous with the making of the film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, subsequently, I have read this many times. For those of you who don?t know the story, a brief synopsis:
"It is more than a mere horror tale. This is the account of a man gifted with ... ...century Louisiana and New Orleans, Anne Rice describes plantation life and a historical period perfectly through her character's mannerisms, reminisces and lifestyles, of them and their victims. Claudia is strong and Louis is weak and when she exacts her revenge on Lestat, Louis cannot resist, ...

...delighted to find out that Anne had written a whole series portraying the ever ongoing tales of the Vampire Lestat and the many other new and previously introduced vampires. I decided to skip "Interview" being as i have seen the film , i didnt really see much point, so i went merrily onto "The Vampire Lestat"

Its a very strange concept, and im sure there must be a reason for it! It doesnt actually ...

I've been an Anne Rice fan for several years now. I first read 'Interview with the Vampire' about 5 years ago, after seeing the film (incidentally one of my favourites, though very different from the novel) and loved it, but for some reason I never read any more. Then about 3 years ago I found 'The Witching Hour' in a second hand book shop in Majorca and was instantly hooked. Since then I have read every one of the Mayfair trilogy ... ...name's A. N. Roquelaure and Anne Rampling) creating an atmosphere and a tension that is largely beyond description.
Her knowledge of and love for her home city, New Orleans, is extremely evident from her writing. The descriptions she gives are fantastic, she creates a city that seems an almost magical paradise, and the small details she gives serve only to make the images more vivid.
She creates characters that are easy to identify with and to ...
