Anon Helix Goggles

First impressions

If you are going on a skiing holiday and are not keen on hiring all of your equipment you might want to consider buying your own goggles and a few of the other cheaper items such as gloves etc. These are items that you can use and keep to give to family members when they are going skiing aswell, saving money on hire costs.

I am fortunate to have a large indoor ski slope just a few miles away, so I suppose this only encourages us to enjoy this kind of activity. The Anon brand was not one that I were familiar with when I bought these Helix Goggles. The colourful design of the frames really caught my attention, though the price was also a deciding factor as I didn’t want to spend a small fortune on a top-of-the-range pair.

The band and frames are multi-coloured and this sets them apart from a lot of other skiing goggles available. If you have a colour-coded set of skiing equipment then you might want to avoid these goggles, but I think the design is fun and they would actually suit any colour scheme when you think about it!

My experience

It is important to keep the lenses in great condition, and the ‘TRU-V’ polycarbonate lenses are tough and offer 100% UV protection. It is very important to buy from a well-known and/or trusted brand, because your eyes can easily be damaged by the sun when you are in the snow. These goggles also have the Anon ‘Integral Clarity Technology’. This gives you superb and crystal clear vision when you are on the slopes, a vital consideration when you are moving at pace.

The frames are lightweight and don’t feel as restrictive as I thought they could be. Some goggles are bulky and tight, but these do not get in the way too much. Obviously they are going to be stuck to your face, but to be honest these ones are less intrusive than some of the other goggles I tried on. The low profile design is going to make you stand out on the slopes.

The padding around the eyes consists of foam. If you think about the foam around swimming goggles, it is pretty much the same idea here, but the foam is very durable and comfortable. The foam creates a seal that offers both padding, protection, and a material that moisture can escape through when you are sweating on the slopes.

The frames are 90mm in height. This is something that people who already have a pair of goggles can relate to, but if you are buying your first pair I would try a few pairs on first before making notes of what size would suit your needs. A goggle bag is included with these goggles, and it is very important to protect those lenses, because you don’t want a view through them restricted by tiny scratches.

Price and availability

The Anon Helix Goggles are priced up from around the £30 mark. You can pay more for the fancier designs, and these multi-coloured ones were a little extra. You get what you pay for, but the Anon brand is one to consider because their goggles are reasonably priced.

Final thoughts

I am very impressed with the Anon Helix Goggles. They are brightly coloured and well designed. They are most importantly very reasonably priced. If you want to buy some goggles to wear on a regular basis then you might want to spend more money, but I prefer spending a smaller amount of money, making it easier to justify replacing them when the inevitable scratches appear on the lenses.
