Advantages: Excellent general quality and features for the price Disadvantages: Marred by quality control not checking before despatch
Bought this and 3 other components from Digital Fusion last week to begin making my own HTPC, wasn't in too much of a hurry as I've yet to decide on mainboard, PSU and DVDRW so picked 3-4 days delivery - parcel arrived safely and securely packed next morning so eagerly checked all components leaving this until last as I've never spent so much on a PC case.
Unfortunately, despite very high build quality and specs, the LCD screen was quite badly scratched so rang Digital Fusion after 6pm on Friday night (impressed somebody was available) reported the fault and they raised an RMA email straight away. Rang again Monday morning to arrange for collection and return on Tuesday, which resulted in delivery driver bringing replacement 10 minutes after phoning RMA number through and collecting faulty one.
Have to say still not impressed with new ...
Advantages: Solid build, built in ir receiver, built in display, quietness Disadvantages: not the cheapest case, instructions poor, questionable volume knob
would be using my universal logitech remote control to switch the system on and off and not the power button on the case itself.
Then the pc was ready to be connected to my hdtv and surround sound, once i powered the system up and installed the operating system (windows xp media center edition) and the drivers for the on board display (on included disc). my media centre was ready to use!
And i must say this case is ideal for a living room pc as if you have the cases included cooling fans set to the lowest settings the pc is barely audible.
And for looks it looks great under my samsung tv in between my ps3 and surround sound amplifier and looks more like a piece of high end A/V equipment than a pc.
The only bad things i have come across are that the volume knob on the front of the case although looking very nice does not seem to do ...
Advantages: Stylish, Can fit full size GPUs, Easy to set up Disadvantages: Standard Tri-cool fans are too noisy, VFD display functionality is a bit limited
I have been running the Fusion now for six months with now problems. I am running an Intel e6600, geforce 8600GT and an Audigy soundcard in this case- all fit perfectly and dont warm the case up too much, even with the 3 speed fans set to the lowest setting.
The VFD display on the front of the unit works well and it is a variation of Soundgraph's IMON device. The only disappoining part of this is however that the Fraphic equaliser does not seem to work with anything but I tunes. As I run Vista Media centre, this is not much use.
My main problem with the unit is the noise from the "Tri-Cool" fans; even on the lowest setting they are too loud for a media centre: With the volume down on the TV (ie now at 12.15 with my wife in bed) I can clearly hear them droning away- quite annoying.
Fans aside (you can buy much better ones ...
