Where do I start?!?!?
Firstly I'm 23 years old, and I'm male. Which explains why I didnt think I would have piles!
To this day I still dont know where they came from but I do know that Anusol gave some welcoming relief.
-------------------- How it started -------------------- Over the last six months or so I have had an increasing itch up my backside! Im not really sure how to say it without being too crude but there you go. It was uncomfortable for me and te uncomfortableness was getting worse and worse because the more I was itching the worse the inflammation was getting. It was indeed getting embarrassing as when I was out I had to find a tree or lamp post to hide behind to have a good scratch.
I was petrified someone would see!
At work it was no better as I had to keep going to the loo to have a scratch (obviously I washed my hands after).
In the end about a month ago I had had enough! I was too embarrassed to go and see a doctor so I did a search of the internet and most of the articles I found seemed to point to piles (or haemorrhoids). At first I was a little sceptical as I thought these were something that old people got and pregnant women.
Anyway I decided to bite the bullet and when I next went shopping I secretly tucked a tube of anusol in the trolley (hiding it under my currant buns to avoid embarrassment). THe main embarrassment I got that day was stupidly choosing a checkout with a cute young lady behind it. I had forgotten I had put it in my trolley and when she came to ring it up I got a funny look and I was mortified. I dont think I've ever gone so red in my life.
---------------------- The Experience ---------------------- When I got home (stopping to itch several times up the road) I put the shopping away and then crept up to the bedroom where I read the leaflet enclosed in the box.
It said to apply in the morning and evening and after each bowel movement. fair enough!
It was afternoon but I was in such need of relief I didnt care, so I was to apply it there and then.
In the box is a 23g tube of anusol and a plastic shaft which is to be inserted into the anus for internal piles. (I was aghast at the thought).
Still I wanted it to get better and as I hadnt seen a doctor I didnt know if I had them internally (I knew that I had external piles from examination in a miror).
I decided I would treat for both external and internal as a just in case so firstly I screwed the shaft on to the tube and inserted it as directed into my bum. Then I started squeezing the tube. Oh my god it was shocking! So COLD!
After squirting a good lot up there I rubbed some around my anus area with my fingers and immediately felt a sense of relief from the itching.
------------------ The Results ------------------
I continued to use the product morning and evening for the next week or so (unfortunately it wasnt practical for me to use it after most bowel movements as I was generally at work).
I am glad to say that although it still itches a little bit, I think this is now down to skin irritation from previous scratching so I am using savlon to control this.
Generally anusol worked wonders for me, at least it has spared me some embarrassing itching moments.
Whether the piles come back remains to be seen and I am still amazed that I had them as I didnt think I was particularly at risk.
---------------------------- The Causes of Piles ---------------------------- Piles are caused by anything that exerts pressure on the lining of the anus. The most common causes of this type of pressure are straining to go to the toilet (constipation) and being overweight, this causes blood vessels that are normally found inside your bum to hang out.
In men, I have since found out that the main causes are constipation and sitting on the toilet too long reading books and magazines.
---------------------- The Symptoms ---------------------- The main symptons are an itchy bum, together with blood on toilet paper when you wipe. If this has never happened to you before it can be quite disturbing but is caused by the blood vessels becoming grazed on wiping. Also, it is adviseable that if there is a lot of blood, or if there is blood in the faeces, that you see a doctor as it could be something much more sinister.
--------------- Prevention --------------- Piles can be avoided by eating a high-fibre diet (breakfast cereals, wholemeal bread, plenty of fruit and vegetables) and drinking at least eight glasses of water a day. Caffeine dehydrates the body, so decaffeinated teas and coffees are better.
It's also important not to ignore the need to open the bowels when you feel the need, as this can contribute to constipation. Inactivity is another cause of constipation, and therefore piles, so get up and move about.
You may also find it beneficial (I did) that if you are buying cheap toilet paper to spalsh out and buy something much softer, of course the added advantage of this is that you get to live like a King or Queen for a few weeks :o)
----------------- Whats in it? ----------------- Active ingredients per 100g: Zinc Oxide 10.75g, Bismuth oxide 2.14g, Balsam Peru 1.8g
Also contains: Glycerol monostearate, liquid paraffin, propylene glycol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, E171, methyl hydroxybenzoate, propyl hydroxybenzoate and water.
Obviously if you are allergic to any of these ingredients you should not use this product.
------------- The Cost ------------- Costs around £3 for a 23g tube.
Overall I would definately recommend this product to anyone suffering from piles.
I guess it would be best if I didnt include any pictures on this review :o)
Thanks for reading, hope it wasnt too crude, it was certainly embarrassing to write
Advantages: Works brilliantly on that tender area Disadvantages: none
Haemorrhoids are a particularly uncomfortable and sometimes extremely painful ailment. They are more often called piles and many suffer from this disorder regularly. There are many wives tales associated with the condition, but there is no proof that they are caused by any of the tales you may have encountered especially the sitting or hot or cold surfaces. Haemorrhoids are caused by the swelling of veins surrounding the lower internal part of the ... ...much that they are forced out of the back passage and are left protruding as very tender areas. It is not a pleasant subject to talk about so I apologise for any uncouthness that may emerge
As the swelling increases so does the pain as one has to commit to a bowel movement. Sitting and sometimes even just walking can be excruciating and your swelling rubs on your body and your underwear. It is most definitely not a very nice thing to have. One of ...

...went off to collect my Anusol from the Chemists. Whilst this cream is available over-the-counter I got mine on prescription as I’m still entitled to free prescriptions until my son is one year old. Therefore I am unable to comment on the price. On arrival at home I opened the box to find a 23g tube of Anusol cream and a rather odd looking plastic nozzle. After reading the instructions I discovered that this cream should be used in the morning, ... ...– but what was the nozzle for?? Further investigation revealed that this 5cm nozzle was to be inserted into the back passage for the relief of internal piles. This was certainly an interesting experience, never having been into that type of thing in bed, and my husband could only wonder in the giggles coming from the bathroom. Trust me, you’ll probably giggle too if you have the ‘pleasure’ of using this cream for internal ...

...~ Description ~
Anusol is produced in three different forms – suppositories, ointment and cream. I used the cream (23g) and this is what the opinion is written around.
The cream comes in a box roughly 4 x 1 x ½ inches which is coloured in green and white, the tube inside the box is about an inch shorter and is also coloured in green and white. The cream inside the tube is a murky creamy colour and could only be described as having a fragrance ... ...~ Application ~
When applying the cream you need to wash the affected area and dry carefully with a soft towel. When dry you can rub the cream in or attach a plastic nozzle to the end of tube, then insert this into your rectum and squeeze the tube gently until you can feel the cold sensation (and boy is this cold!). Make sure that you wash the nozzle thoroughly with hot soapy water after use.
The cream needs to be re-applied morning and night and ...

o.k, if you have got this far and are not sure if this is the product for you, or even if you are unsure of whether you have haemorrhoids even....maybe you want to look at this checklist and make your mind up.
***What are piles/haemorrhoids?
These are swollen blood vessels, which occur inside or outside the back passage (anus) (eew)
Some lucky people can have piles without experiencing any symptoms whatsoever, but most will notice some of the following descriptions:
*Bleeding: Although streaks of bright red blood on the toilet paper are not uncommon in people with piles, it may be a sign of a more serious condition and you should see your doctor about this.
*Swelling: The swollen blood vessels may be ...
