I switched from a Windows PC with Millennium Edition OS to Mac mini... a bit like upgrading a bicycle to a Ferrari.
I upgraded the 512MB RAM to 2 GB to make sure I wouldn't be clogged down by running lots of applications at once, and it works really fast and smoothly. It came with OS X, Safari, Mail, Quick Time, Bluetooth connectivity, DVD player and iDVD, iPhoto and also a trial version of MS Office for Mac, plus lots of other stuff. I chose not to buy a licence for MS Office and downloaded NeoOffice instead, so I can use spreadhseet, presentation, drawing, database and word applications for free.
The total price was half what I paid for my Windows ME PC, with 256 MB RAM, Athlon processor and not much else, 7 years ago. I used the Apple educational online store, with free delivery and really good telephone customer service (although it takes a while for the phone to be answered).
Being used to regular blue screens of death, to the system slowing down to a halt almost everytime I had more than 3 or 4 applications running, or if I watched a couple of videos on You Tube, to not being able to watch DVDs for fear of crashing the system and all that, it's refreshing to be able to do lots of things at once with no noticeable loss of speed. The only thing to note is that the mouse pointer occasionally goes nuts and whizzes around the screen madly for no apparent reason, but it only lasts a couple of seconds then it settles down. I am also enjoying the silence (as opposed to the noise from the old computer - it almost sounded like a Spitfire was taking off).
Initially I also missed Outlook Express and Internet Explorer. I'm still not too keen on Safari, but BonEcho (the Firefox equivalent for Mac) is brilliant and the Mail application is also starting to grow on me. The other "strange" thing, coming from Windows, is that the buttons to close, minimise or restore the window are in the top left corner rather than the top right one, but that doesn't take much to get used to (in fact, when I'm at work and use Windows now, I istinctively reach for the top left when I want to close a window).
Just one word of warning: think long and hard before buying the Might Mouse and the Apple keyboard to go with it. I only did because the Apple store in Regent St was the most convenient to reach at the time I realised I couldn't use my old mouse and keyboard (not USB), but I really regret spending that sort of money (about £50 for both of them) for something that you can't take apart nor clean. The mouse has already lost some of its functionality after only 4 months of use, possibly due to dust gathered from the mat (which, unlike most mice, can't be cleaned off as the mouse is not designed to be opened). The keyboard is stiff, the keys are sticky and awkward to press (this was straight from the factory, not due to any misuse).
Advantages: Slim, quiet, easy to use, stylish, Remote control Disadvantages: No keyboard or Mouse, non-upgradeable, slow graphics chip.
...I have read that it is very much the complete experience.
I would thoroughly recommended getting as much RAM as possible when ordering this, as it is not user upgradable.
Oh and avoid the Apple Mighty Mouse, it's prone to dirt and grease on the little scroll ball! ...

Advantages: Small enough to go anywhere and great spec in such a small space Disadvantages: OSX can be a bit tricky for new users
...the usual look that all apple products seem to have nowadays. Even though it is a great machine it has not yet managed to replace my windows desktop.
The Specification on this base model are not exactly those of a power PC but if you are only going to use it as an office machine then this should not be a problem. If you want a machine for gaming it is probably worth looking at something with a little higher specification. Saying that though the ... ...playing age of empires 3 on it quite happily now for about 2 months and it seems to have no problem with it. With this model of the Mac Mini only having a CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive it can be kind of restrictive if you want to write DVD's when you only have a CD Writer but the slot loader is a nice feature and quite a novelty at first if you have never used one before. The base model comes with 512Mb of RAM but I recommend upgrading this to 1GB as you will ...

Advantages: Small, sleek, sexy, fast, no viruses! Disadvantages: no windows software can be run off it.
...this, i have realised that apple computers are far superior to windows. this is very fast, very very very small, easy to use and i have absoloutely so complaints with it whatsoever.
the only downside to this computer would infact apply to all computers that do not run windows - it cannot run most software as most software is developed for windows only.
i would reccomend this pc to anyone, it is especially easy to use ! even people with no experience ... ...this computer applies to all apple computers, and that is that there are only 12 known viruses that can affect an apple computer, and about 12,000,000+ for windows.
in conclusion i think that more people shold be using apple macs as they are much easier to use and better in every way than windows.
thanks for reading. ...
