Manufacturer's product description
The Apple Drive Module (ADM) is a hot-pluggable hard drive in a special drive carrier module designed for easy server upgradeability and maintenance. Apple Serial ATA Drive Modules are available in capacities up to 1TB and operate at 7200 rpm. The 80GB drive is equipped with 8MB of disk cache. The 1TB drive uses perpendicular recording technology to achieve greater capacity while increasing performance and is equipped with 32MB disk cache. Both drives are 24x7 server-class rated and are ideal for applications needing capacity and great storage value with excellent performance. Using up to three drive modules, the Xserve can be configured from 80GB to 3TB of internal storage. Unpopulated bays ship with a blank drive carrier, which can be replaced with a drive module at any time - even if the server is running - so it's easy to add storage capacity as your server needs grow. Each ADM has two LED activity lights - one indicating drive activity and one indicating drive status. All Apple Drive Modules support SMART - Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology - allowing the hardware monitoring tools including with Xserve to monitor the status of each hard drive and report pre-failure warnings before problems occur.
Advantages: Simple Setup, great value for money Disadvantages: Win 2000/XP/Vista only - not for Win 98/ME

It arrived this morning (Tuesday) having ordered in the previous Friday, and all of this post free.
For anyone that hasn't bought a Freecom external harddrive before, you get a very stylish drive unit, power adapter, leads and installation disk. Installing (in my case) took less than 5 minutes, most of the time was spent unpacking the pieces.
Simply attached the usb lead, power pack and switched on. Instantly recognised by the Windows XP operating system as the next drive letter.
The unit is virtually...

Advantages: 1 Terrabyte Disadvantages: not portable - but who cares
...This is a bargain that i couldn't pass up without buying. 1TB should keep me going for several years and more.
I bought this harddrive for £101 and it has been a pleasure to use. It's a doddle to set up and install and the fast rate of transfer makes file sharing very efficient and easy.
Design
The portable harddrive comes in an attractive silver case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It is a desktop drive and cant really be moved around due to its size.
Installation
The instructions were easy to follow and it installed by windows wizard as soon as i plugged it in, so within 20 minutes i was backing up my files.
Performance
Performance is good for a portable hard disk, and there was no real difference in speed between the two interfaces. T
Features
It doesn't ship with backup software, just file...
