The first step is the most important one just order the correct Adaptor, :-)
my second monitor is a VGA so I ordered the VGA Adaptor, if you have a digital monitor you will need the DVI one, out of the pack the Adaptor has the typical Apple build and feel and so easy to use it beggars belief

I attached my monitor to the adaptor, and plugged the Adaptor into the Mini port on the rear of my Mac, the Apple twirl cursor spun for about 10 seconds, then the display properties sprang to my screen
I had choices did I want to see the same thing on both screens or did I want to see separate things on each screen, then which side did I want the new monitor to ..."
