Im 17, live in a beautiful part of the world in Derbyshire. My dad lives in Sheffield, right next door to the peak district so it's best of both worlds! Currently studying for A-levels.

Before getting the macbook I was using an old 500Mhz powerbook. Upgrading to the Macbook was amazing and the speed differences are incredibly. The beautiful widescreen glossy display is amazing for viewing photos and films really showing the true colours. The 80 GB hard drive is more than enough. If you have more than 20 GB of music and want to store it on your laptop I suggest getting a larger hard drive.
Battery life is very good. I take it into school each day and type all my notes up on it without having to recharge and there's even enough spare for my friends to play games in between lessons. :)
iLife '06 all integrates with each other extremely well allowing photos videos and music to be accessed in any other iLife application.
Mac OS X once again is truly amazing to work with. Incredibly simple to use and looks really nice on the glossy screens.
Photos can be easily organized in iPhoto allowing slideshows for the whole family with a click of the mouse. Editing home movies is made easy with iMovie. Create your own website in minutes with iWeb.
The built in isight is great for talking with friends/family/colleagues. I talk to my aunty in australia, uncle in america and my dad in sheffield on a regular basis with great ease.
The 1GB of memory is easily enough for everyday tasks. I run photoshop, Dreamweaver, flash etc without any problems also. If you are going to get 2 GB i suggest buying from someone else and not apple as they will charge you a lot more than it can be bought for elsewhere.
Things to note:
I suggest buying a carry case if your transporting the macbook around. no carry case is included.
where your hand wrest when using the mouse is where the inset area is for lifting the display, this is quite sharp on the hand.
The graphics card is not upgradable. It runs everything fine however large graphics intensive games will struggle a bit.
It does not come with microsoft office. This can be purchased but is not included.
My dad owns a black macbook and the build quality seems to be slightly greater than that of my white one.
The white plastic surrounding the mouse where your hand rests can get quite mucky however with some meths this cleans up nicely.
The iSightcamera is positioned right where your finger is when opening the laptop so whenever you open it your thumb covers the lens. I havn't noticed any blurriness in pictures but it just seems a little odd wiping your grubby mits over the iSight lens.
There is no shockwave support as of yet. Which means if you want to use a shockwave application in your web browser you must start the browser in rosetta. not a problem but just a bit annoying.
For anyone not sure about transferring from PC to Mac:
My grandad is 70 years old. He used his PC quite regularly for editing photos etc as he is an artist. He decided that he needed a new computer and he decided to go down the Mac route. Hes now had his iMac for about a year. I asked him the other week would he ever go back. "I wouldnt even consider getting another PC even if someone gave me money"
Im not trying to convert the whole world to apple, Im just saying, this guy is 70 years old and finds Mac OS X 50 times better than windows. Because I used to use PC's myself I know what it is like to convert. Things are very different on Apple. At first you will find things annoying but after a week you will be wondering why you ever bought a PC. The best thing to do is just find a friend who has one and ask if you can play around with it for a bit and get used to it if you are not sure.
