Overall I would say this is excellent value for money as you can run any os with bios support and you get the build quality of apple products, as well as the best os in the world (os x tiger). Now you can finaly dump that old windows box for a much more elagant all in one solution. ... more
The MacBook pro really does have the best of both worlds. In a recent firmware upgrade offered by Apple and a smaller program called Bootcamp OS X now includes BIOS support as apossed to just EFI. What does this mean? Well it means you can install other operating systems such as Windows XP (only SP2 atm) and linux distro's such as Fedora Core. Great but I wanted OS X to get way from other operating systems...Well its a welcome addition, especially to professionals, many times professionals would need a second machine to test how there work would show on a windows computer (Web designer to check compatabilty with Internet explorer for etc) and also gamers. This now allows users to have just one machine and use both OS X and XP, so no need for a 2nd computer (and XP really flys on my MacBook 1.8ghz 512mb ram!)
Enough of dual booting, the MacBook Pro is stunning. Its fast and it really shows it when comparing native applications to those running on a G4 OR G5. Having said that many non native apps running under rossetta also hold up well against there PPC relatives. All in all OS X just flies on these new Intel Core Duo processors. Adding extra RAM will seriously speed up rossetta but its out of the box performance is perfect for light/casual work.
iLife 06 is included and works like a charm, it is much quicker on my MacBook Pro compared to my iMac G5. The iSight also looks a little sharper on my MacBook as well.
The build quality is excellent, its sleek and sexy. There are plenty of build to order options, especially take up the chance of adding more ram (dual channel if possible).
Battery life is ok and lasts around 3 hours on medium settings. The laptop can get very hot just under the screen whilst plugged into the power mains mking it uncomfortable at times on a lap, heat however is fine whilst running off battery.
The built in sensors are excellent, as soon as the lighting changes the screen britness will change for optimal viewing as well as the keyboard lighting which is light sensored and will increase and decrease depending on the light. The screen I must say is excellent and is as bright as the apple cinema display.

...automatically checked in with the Apple website and updated the latest versions of software, including security updates which seem to occur on a fairly regular basis. It is reassuring to know that I am constantly being guarded against the latest hacker threats and viruses.
Mac computers seem expensive when compared to PCs but you get so much useful software included that would otherwise cost many ££££ add to this the reliability issues and you realise ... ...If you are happy with a tempramental run-around get a PC but if you want to enjoy carefree motoring look no further than your Apple dealer.
If you go to an Apple Centre you can also benefit from their free seminars which really help get the creative juices flowing. ...

I have now had my mac for nearly a year now and it is the best thing i have ever invested in and even though i got a student discount it was still quite pricey and the pay monthly price plan was great.
The mac is nothing like windows where you can open multiple windows without it freezing up or crashing down. (mine was a windows XP and it was brand new)
The battery life of the MacBook Pro is max 4 hours so thats a downfall but the performance is ...

...suggest you go to an Apple store. They take at least two weeks to arrive from CHINA!!! You can track it from apecode.com. Although, that site is rather addictive. I was tracking it every five minutes and it was absolute hell when it showed 'flight delayed'. It is inadvisable to go elsewhere than Apple direct because the models tend to be older in normal shops and websites and, although apparently cheaper, if you don't know what you are looking for ... ...It almost felt worth the £1000 that I had just spent (or should I say what my Mother had spent?). Nowadays, and this goes for the ipods too, the packaging is very minimal. This is obviously because Apple are producing so much more, but it is still a massive shame. ...

ok, so to start,
it is an apple, that means you get a solid quality product and on the whole very good customer are.
this particualar apple is deffinatly more suited to being a media center than other laptops. At first glance you realise that it is a fairly large laptop, this allows for a big screen, which being an apple ffers clear vivid displays, unfortunatly the big screen increases the overal size and also uses more battery, however, the 4.5 hour yattery is still very good for an entertainment laptop.
The laptops technical specs include a very fast 2.5 ghz dual core proccesor which is very fast, the dual core allows it to tackle multiple tasks quicly as well as increasing the overall speed of the laptop.
The price is quite steep however, but i believe, if given the money, it is ...
Advantages: portable, runs very fast, large storage with TimeMachine application for backing up your work Disadvantages: some problems with using Safari, though this may be due to the wireless network I am using, costs!
In my opinion, the Apple Macbook Pro is an ideal laptop. As a student, I find that it meets all my needs - I can store plenty of music, photos etc even though I bought the cheapest one with the smallest memory.
The system operates very fast and comes with both Firefox and Safari.
My only criticism is that it only comes with textedit and so you have to buy iWorks for around £65. However, despite this it is good value for money and I don't regret spending my 2 years worth of part-time earnings on it!
It has everything I want from a laptop and is ideally portable and good for watching films despite the smaller screen size. Another feature I particularly liked was that it has a light up keyboard for when you are in darker rooms - you can adjust the brightness of the keyboard the same as you can for the screen. Let me be frank. I am a fan of Apple computer. This is no secret. I love more or less everything they do, and although I hope to be objective, here, you are reading the review of a card carrying member of the Cult of Mac.
I had heard that apple had been prepping a redesign to the MacBookpro line for some time, and had held off on purchasing my new macbook pro until this happened. Sadly, the updates came, and the 17 inch top end model was not part of the refresh. The cool new unibody macbook pro's are limited to the 15 inch model. I agonised over the choice for some time, the new 15 inch MBP's are so impressive, but eventually, screen real estate won out, and I brought the older design 17 inch model. I have to say, I am not disappointed.
