Great laptop, has lasted me just over 2 years now and is still serving me well! I use the powerbook for producing music on Logic Pro 7.2, I however found that after I had learned the basics and am now straying a little further into the realms of soft-synthesis, my memory was limiting me so I up-graded to 2gig of ram from the 512meg which comes factory built in the machine, this was done easily (just a few screws and that was it!). The new ram only cost me £32 for 2GB (1GB per slot), amazing value too! If you are planning on doing this you must make sure you use the correct type of ram for the unit, some are DDR2 and the older ones are not. This means the older ones cos substantially more (over £100) I used crucial.com, they allowed me to pinpoint exactly what machine i was using and sold me the correct one.
The sound quality from the in-built card is fantastic, the notebook is light, modern looking and very easy to use, it also copes with everyday tasks extremely well which makes using the internet a breeze using safari and a version of msn is available on the mac.
The battery life is great too, i could take my laptop to college and make tunes for at least 3 hours before the "battery low" siren sounded!
Although the hard drive is only 100GB and the processor is only a 1.67GHz single core, the mac makes efficient use of these.
I once spilled beer over it, so I just sat it up on its end (like a book) and let the beer spill out. Its still works! I am using it right now to write this review!
The powerbook G4 17" has seved me well with is unstoppable capability, with its DVD player, DVD/CD writer, great soundcard/graphics driver, optical sound input, firewire (great for sound engineering) and overall sexiness!
