Why it is called PowerBook? ****************************** Is there any super power in this laptop? Lets have a deep discuss about this PowerBook and we will explore about it power. Actually it has a power of budget laptop, not a configuration power, because it has low configured budget notebook. If we are planning to go for 17" notebook but in reasonable price than we can consider it. Now I will enter in deep about the available features and its performance strategy. Generally it is out dated notebook and in present aspects it is more or less not suitable with latest applications but as a look and feel we can consider it with cheap priced 17" screen notebook. *** Processign speed ******************** Now I am going to describe its mind I mean processing unit, and it has PowerPC G4 1.67 GHz!! What you think about this...really out dated processor, it is the time of multi core processing unit so that traditional or old type of processor cannot provide that kind of performance which we can desire from laptop manufacturers. But if we consider the time when this type of processor was abundantly used than they were the king of that time. This processor has ohh....I can say that it has 167 MHz of data bus speed and L2 cache size is 512KB. Actualy I have more interests in reviewing latest products but Today I have decided to go for old technology alsi, that how people managed to work with ols technology.. but that time the operating systems and applications means softwares was also low memory consuming and less featured so that they also run better in this type of products. *** Memory mania **************** Now If we consider the memory size in both aspects as system memory and hard drive than it was good on that time when it has 512MB of DDR1 Ram and this capacity of RAM is still in use and it was best option available, we can consider now a day's also because notebooks like Asus ePC also contain lower RAM but better performance with ultra portability functions. The storage media is 100GB hard disk drive and many of laptops also contain this capacity of storage media, because it is more enough for old version of operating software and applications. So that there is no regret in storage capacity also. *** graphics ********** Now the main target feature of this laptop, I think it is the best feature in all installed feature in this laptop...and that is its Graphics card..Actually apple has launched this laptop to capture gaming market and they have provided better graphics as well as large screen size also. ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 AGP 4x, with 128 MB of graphics memory, not bad in present prospects also. If we see the present laptop market than many of the products has 128 Mb graphics memory and they are doing well in general application field and gaming environment also. So it is good feature available in this type laptop. I am taking more interest to reviewing this product because Apple had provided such kind of featured laptop in that time when peoples were considering to buy desktop due to higher laptop prices. Now the all important feature we have discussed, and other common featured I think the maximum what Apple can provide...they have provided..The laptop was the king of its era.

(+) cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 (-) few connectors,dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!
Good review. These laptops are still very usable today, as long as you're not using the most up-to-date spec-hungry software. I have a similar G4 Powerbook with an even slower CPU, an 800MHz Titanium, and it's still my main Mac because the G4 CPU is compatible with all of my third-party Photoshop plugins, which my Intel Mac is not, so I still do all my Photoshopping on the Powerbook. The G4 also has the advantage of being able to run Classic, which the Intel chips will not do, and I have very good Classic apps I still use. Sometimes old technology can be helpful when it comes to compatibility problems, so buying something like this as a second Mac can be extremely useful!
