    I was recently asked to set up a small business with 3 new macs on a small network on a mediocre budget. And to cut the long "what to buy debate" story short, we plumped with 2 second hand G3's and an imac. If we had bought brand new computers they would all have had to be the most basic imacs and this wasn't really suitable (as 17" screens were needed). The blue and white G3 is, in my opinion a great 2nd hand buy. They are being sold off in the bucket load at the moment by people upgrading to G4 and are still very stylish and fairly fast computers with the added advantage of being very ... more

    Advantages Advantages Macs are brilliant, although my opinion may be biased!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Getting hold of software can be a bind if you're in a hurry to play with the latest games

    I am a Mac Fanatic, using the machines both at work and at home and very rarely have any problems, but I must issue warning to all considering the purchase of a second hand MAChine - check out the prices and availability of memory for the model you're looking at. For business use, I have a beige G3 tower, loaded to the gills with RAM and as I haven't had to pay for it, I have no complaints - seriously - getting extra RAM for these machines is NO PROBLEM (If your considering a G4 it's even less of a problem and cost is comparative to that of a PC user to upgrade), but at home I have an ageing ... more

    Power Macs have always been the flagship of the Apple Macintosh range. Aimed at the commercial sector or the high-end home user who has money to burn and mates to impress. Fortunately for us, the price of old computers tumbles with time and these late 90's computers can be found on eBay for around £50 plus postage. This does reflect their near obsolescence, but the great news is: they can be very easily upgraded with parts from the same source (eBay)!     The most obvious thing to mention first of all about this computer is that it is an Apple, it has the OSX operating system NOT Windows! If you are familiar with Macs, you will know what this means, so just look down a bit to see my review of this model. This computer will not run Microsoft Windows, this means that any software designed for Windows will not work. The upside of this is that there are effectively no viruses targeted at the Mac as there are more Windows machines out there.
