A loveable computer Review ofApple Power Mac G4 Cube - PPC G4 450 MHzby

Advantages: speed, efficiency, quietness, aesthetically pleasing Disadvantages: touch sensitive buttons too easy to turn on accidentally, top loading CD can't be forcibly ejected
...However, after a chat with Apple Support, they arranged for a courier to come pick it up for repair. They didn't charge for this (and I was not covered by anything other than the warranty given with all purchases). I was dismayed at first to find that my beautiful computer was being sent to the Netherlands for repair, and expected not to see it for weeks. 5 days later, though, and my Cube was back at home, as good as new. It's worth pointing out ... ...gave me a moment's more stress - and that is nearly 4 years' trouble-free use. I expect the same from the Cube.
All in all I'd say this is well worth the extra spent on it, as the design will stand the test of time, its power will stand me in good stead for years to come. Let's not forget also that the Cube has been designed for ease of upgrade too. all you do is turn the Cube upside down and pull out the inner unit to add in more memory, cards, ...

Not only does apple produce the fastest mass production laptop on this planet, it now has in its range a laptop that is better than a sub-note. If you are wondering what a sub-note is, an example would be the SONY VIAO. The sub-note range of computers are a trade-off, this means that the subnote are inferior to laptops in order to gain in areas such as weight and size. However, Apple has now bucked the trend. The Apple Powerbook G4 Titanium, announced ... ...G4, the new offering from Apple is typical of what is has had on offer in the past. This is not to say that it isnt good, but to say that Apple keeps on offering the best. CONNECTIVITY ---> On the outside the Titanium offers a wide range of external connectors: - 1 x Firewire Port >>>Great for digital equipment and external drives. - 1 x USB Port >>>good for external drives and other devices such as joysticks. - 1 x 10/100 Base-T Network Connector ...

Advantages: Looks lovely. Very fast. Disadvantages: Very, very expensive. Not much fun unless you've got a 22" monitor.
I recently used the Apple Cube for the first time, and yes, I did use with one of those huge flatscreen monitors (you know, the 22" one that costs more than the computer). For those of you who don't know, the Cube is the latest design of computer to come from Apple. Designed by the same team who designed the iMac, it's an 8-inch high cube of plastic with a box containing the CPU, etc. inside. When a company like Apple produce such a new design, the ... ...aimed at? Will it help Apple to expand their market share by tempting people away from Windows? The answer seems to be no. The cheapest version of the Cube is advertised as costing £999, but this price doesn't include VAT or a monitor. Even if you just want to get Apple's regular 17" CRT monitor, you'll pay a total of about £1600, which is far more than a home user is prepared to pay, especially when they can get an iMac for about half the price. ...

Apple G4 Cube Review ofApple Power Mac G4 Cube - PPC G4 450 MHzby

Advantages: Style, Compactness, Quiet and a very fast system. Disadvantages: Origionals have a low end video card
I have lived with this computer now for about 5 months. It has a G4 450 Mhz processor with 192 MB of memory (Not Standard), DVD, USb & Firewire.
The cost of the computer was a bit on the steep side at around £1200, but I figured that it was worth it and I wasn't wrong. The design of the computer is revolutionary, being almost an 8" cube. There is no fan fitted to the inside of the machine and cooling is achieved by a central cooling tower and working ... ...into the central cooling tower. All of the compnoents are packed around this area for optimum cooling.
The power is supplied by an external and quite large power adaptor, but makes sense to keep this out of the computer, saving on weight, size and heat build up.
The disk drive 20GB is whisper quiet and the system as a whole makes hardly any noise at all.
I have read opinions from people that state there is no ability to upgrade the system, I agree ...

nice but for who? Review ofApple Power Mac G4 Cube - PPC G4 450 MHzby
Tygier
...machine looks fantastic (see the apple web site for pics) it is a white cube suspended in a clear case. on the top is a slot load DVD drive and an air vent. There is no fan so it is silent (apple claim only 19 decibels). The insides are easy to acsess by flipping the machine over and lifting them out. You can install 1.5 GB of RAM (if you have £3000). It also has the new monitor connector which carries signal power and USB in one lead, but is only ... ...port if you want a different monitor.
But what i want to know is who will buy this machine. Costing £1200 or £1600 (plus VAT) it is in the same price range as the lower G4 towers but with lower specs and less upgradability. When you include the price of a monitor it is a lot of money for a home user, which profesionals may want the higher specs of the G4 towers. Only people who can afford to pay for compactness of it will want it. I doubt that ...

Manufacturer's product description
Apple presents the Power Mac G4 Cube: a supercomputer miraculously engineered into an eight-inch cube, suspended in a stunning crystal-clear enclosure. Though it's less than one quarter the size of most PCs, the G4 Cube delivers far greater performance. With its built-in Velocity Engine, the G4 processor reaches speeds of over one billion calculations per second, humbling even the fastest Pentium III, and giving you more than enough horsepower for the most demanding uses. Despite its power, the G4 Cube is amazingly unobtrusive. A revolutionary no-fan design makes it whisper quiet. The ingenious Apple Display Connector (ADC) reduces desktop clutter by putting power, video, and USB signals on a single, slim cable. And, as you'd expect from Apple, the G4 Cube gives you lots of options for accessing the Internet.
