Full review
The initial impact of the new iMac lies in its' unusual looks, this impact is sustained by the diverse functionality and power of the computer; I will deal with the appearance first as this is what draws most people, including myself, to this model. The new iMac has a white dome base about the size of a football cut in half and a 15 inch flat screen display that is attached to the base by a chrome neck, the screen can be moved through 180° on this arm to allow comfortable viewing. The screen moves very smoothly needing only a light touch of a finger, it is also strong and durable.

This manoeuvrability allows you to adjust the computer to you instead of you adjusting to the computer; it would seem that this would be especially beneficial to children and disabled people. The display is exceptionally clear and bright and unlike CRT displays does not flicker.
The small base leaves much more desktop room than a PC, especially convenient for offices and smaller bedrooms such as in student accommodation. Having no underdesk box means no bending to put in CDs (the iMac has a front loading tray) or plug in peripherals (all of the connectors are hidden in a row at the back of the base); although convenient, having the connectors on the desktop makes tidiness of wires an essential!

I have been using the 800MHz iMac and have been very impressed with its performance, applications open quickly and I can open several at once without a noticeable performance change, despite only having the factory standard 256 RAM. (For people interested in graphics work a RAM upgrade may be necessary, unfortunately the rising prices in memory make this an expensive option.) It should be noted that in overall performance, Mac G4 processors are faster than PC processors, such as Pentium and Athlon, advertising the same speed.

The 800MHz version of the iMac has a 60GB hard drive. This model comes with a CD-RW/DVD-R, or SuperDrive allowing you to make your own CDs and DVDs and play them in standard domestic players and other Macs and PCs.

The iMac is well equipped for lots of peripherals; it has five USB connectors, two firewire (or iLink) connectors and built in modem and Ethernet. Unfortunately Apple did not include the new extra fast USB2. Apple has just announced that within two months they will be releasing a USB device to give Macs bluetooth capability, bluetooth allows wireless communication between enabled devices up to thirty feet apart. This device is currently priced at £35 at the Apple Online Store.

I have previously only used Windows software but have found the transition to Mac enjoyable and rewarding, there is a great sense of personal achievement in mastering a new operating system. The new iMac comes with Mac OS X, it is simple to use without being simplistic inside; the stable UNIX base is evident in the fact that since I purchased the computer it has only crashed once, and that was when I was using a PC emulator. Although I am still making some mistakes and missing the right mouse button, I would recommend the iMac over a Windows PC due to its' superior hardware and software.

I brought this model as an education customer from computer warehouse for £1368. For a standard customer, the model price increased last week to £1649.99.

Little white mean machine
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 - PPC G4 733 MHz by redfocx

Advantages: sexy, fast & fun
Disadvantages: will be difficult to expand

Of the things i can't live without I do believe that my new Mac has completely obliterated the need for anything else, it can't feed me, but it can do pretty much anything else. This is the Ferrari of desktop macs, super fast & super sexy with easy to use well laid out progamming to boot! (os.x. of course) It's an all round multi media mean machine, compile your own cds with iTunes in a jiffy and watch DVD movies t the touch of a button. The tiny ...
...have a somewhat surprising volume capacity for their size and yet oh so cute! I must admit that one of the major factors in my buying in G4 imac was the appearance and I am proud the have this little white lump of love sitting on my desk, though the capacity and ease of use are outstanding. Ideal for not techy minded folk like myself, and yet also recommended by those who reall know what they are doing, I must warn you now that once you've had mac, ... Read review

Mac tower review
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 - PPC G4 733 MHz by  punkyD

Advantages: Fast Clean Easy to access upgrages
Disadvantages: old ppc architecture large

...I personally have all ppc g4's in my house and the 775 MHz is so faster its like 1.25Ghz. Also these macs never loose any of there value and you can resell the mac if you wish not to keep it in the future. The macs design is unlike any other PC on the market i have seen. Also the mac is brilliant because of its easy access to all the upgrades you would ever need to do if you so wish so. All Macs from G3 to the intel macs come with USB's this is a great feature which you cannot find in the other desktop PC from around the same time, so if you have a wireless mouse with USB just plug it in and it should work. Another Great feature of the Mac is its drivers are all installed.... Read review

Apple Power Mac G4 Reveiw
Review of Apple Power Mac G4 - PPC G4 733 MHz by  KurtMastaK

Advantages: Cheap, Runs OS X, Looks nice
Disadvantages: Noisy, Not That Fast

...Apple are the best makers of computers and OS but if like me you dont have much money then the G4 is probably the one to go for, as it has all the greatness of apple mac at a much lower price. I got my G4 off of ebay for a very reasonable price about 5-6 months ago and it was a great change from my old dell PC which was painfuly slow and overloaded. External Issues: The G4 Quicksilver is a very sexy and nice looking tower computer although some people dont like the sliver effect i think it makes it look sleek and proffesional, also some people dont like the fact that it is finished in plastic but i think this mackes it look nice and shiny. The clear handles are another nice effect as they distort any thing on the other side of them. One of the bad things about the G4 is that it is by no means silent and if you keep the original hard... Manufacturer's product description

Buckle up - the Power Mac G4 is here. It features the revolutionary PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine, which crunches multimedia data at blazing-fast speeds. The Velocity Engine uses true independent vector processing - a technology originally developed for use in scientific supercomputers. It gives you the power you need to create and manipulate even the most complex graphics files. The result is unprecedented productivity for creative professionals - in the arts as well as the sciences. Apple designed the Power Mac G4 for creative professionals who use computers as the pivotal tool of their trade, setting the pace of their work, their productivity, even their success. With its blazing-fast speed and convention-crushing design, the Power Mac G4 picks up where the best-selling Power Macintosh G3 left off. The Power Mac G4 is so powerful that its speed is measured in gigaflops, or billions of floating-point operations per second, just like supercomputers. At the heart of this system is the PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine. Using vector processing, the PowerPC G4 brings supercomputer performance to the desktop for the first time. The Velocity Engine moves vector and multimedia data at super efficient speeds - it can process data in 128-bit chunks, instead of the smaller 32-bit or 64-bit chunks used in traditional processors. For all those who consider their desktop system a tool for expressing their creative abilities, there's a computer that can keep up with everything their minds can imagine - as quickly as they can only imagine. It's Power Mac G4.
