The new addition in the Power line proved that the megahertz rating is not deciding factor that determined the true value of a PC. Here are some of its basic description:
The new 64-bit Power Macintosh G5 is intended for the higher-end consumers. This is much faster than the G4’s and with the other PC that you could buy today. It has a 1.8 GHz G5 processor and a AGP 8x graphics card slot bundled with either a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (1.6 and 1.8 GHz machines) or ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (dual 2GHz). The Memory slots can consist of up to 8 RAM slots for DDR Memory. You use either use a 333 MHz or ddr 400 MHz memory. The G5 also offers a 64-bit PCI slots and a 2 serial ATA controllers which runs at a 159 MHz frequency. The Power Macintosh G5 absolutely fast, especially the 32-bit applications. There are some improvements including front mounted USB 2.0, FireWire 400 ports and an earphone jack back panel holds twin USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 400 and 800 ports. The back panel includes a FireWire 400 and 800 ports, an Ethernet Jack, twin USB 2.0 ports. The aluminum chassis keeps the Mac in considerable temperatures.
I owned the Power Macintosh G5 for over 3 months now. You first noticed the speed with large image files that always open instantaneously. I can say that it is very quiet. You can remove the aluminum side panel to look inside the box while it's still running, but if you remove the clear plastic air deflector it will automatically go to sleep so that it doesn't overheat. You will never hear any noise at all. There’s also a lot of storage space (160 GB). When I turned on my computer for the first time; it asked if I wanted to connect to the internet. After answering 3 questions I was being connected with the computer automatically entered all the necessary addresses. I was really surprised to find on how this product works but despite having an option of using Virtual PC I find it difficult to use the programs that needed PC-specific software.
The Power Macintosh G5 doesn’t have the following:
1. Multiple Drives 2. Blinking Lights 3. Clutter PortsAnyone who needs the power, speed, storage space will have to go for the G5. There’s no other PC like it.
