Manufacturer's product description
The iBook's PowerPC G4 processor works hand in hand with Mac OS X to give you a one-two performance punch. Mac OS X features preemptive multitasking that allocates processor cycles on an as-needed basis and protected memory that keeps you up and running even if an application happens to crash. For a laptop, the inside of a backpack presents a jarring environment filled with shifts, bounces and the occasional bump. That's why Apple engineers designed the iBook G4 from inside out to stand up to the rigors of your strenuous life. Made from ultratough polycarbonate plastic - the same high-grade material used in bulletproof glass - the iBook's sleek white case resists impact. And inside, a sturdy magnesium frame provides superior strength, while reducing the weight of the iBook G4 to well below that of other full-featured PC notebooks. Rubber mounted and equipped with Sudden Motion Sensor technology that helps protect your data in the event of a drop or fall, the iBook's hard disk drive lets you store all of your digital goodies and still enjoy peace of mind. What's more, the iBook has no I/O doors or protruding elements - and no optical drive tray, either - to break or snap off when tucked into a backpack or briefcase.

Advantages: Portable, it's an Apple Disadvantages: Pricey, quite heavy
...Being an Apple it is an exelent peice of kit. I brought mine from Apple back in september 2005 and it is still running fine.
The major advantages of this is that it runs on Apple OS X so it is as stable as a rock. Not once has it crashed on me since i brought it. The battey life is exceptionable (around 6 hours). The software included is top notch. Even running on a basic 512MB of RAM it still can run many progams at once. It also comes with bluetooth so it can interface with newer mobile phones easiely. The design is flawless, nothing protruding so there's nothing to break off or get snaged. The slot loading super-drive runs extremely quitely and can burn CDs and DVDs
the downsides to the computer is that is is quite heavy and it gets hot quite quickly and being white, dirt and stains from tying show up after a couple of months...

Advantages: Fast, light and beautiful! Disadvantages: Inaccessibility of Apple accessories and software
...The iBookG4 is a great little machine. I bought mine 2 weeks ago and would highly recommend. At first I thought it would be a long and laborious process getting used to the differences between a pc and a Mac (having always used pc's and never Macs) but the software is a doddle to use and the Apple support website is incredibly thorough. The iBook is a beautifully designed laptop and the keyboard is a joy to use. My only slight niggle is the fact that any Apple accessories and software are not readily available in the shops. Unless you purchase over the internet or visit the one of only two Apple shops in the country (which are in London and Birmingham) you will be hard pushed to find a retail outlet selling a decent range of Apple products.
This said, I love my iBook and wouldn't change it for the world!...

Advantages: Great Size, Excellent Features, Fab!!! Disadvantages: Been around a little while
...I had my ibook for almost a year and just upgraded to a macbook.
I loved it, the size was just right, it came packed with features and to be honest aside the processor and cosmetic changes was just as good a machine.
Its unfortunate that apple are drawing the line under the power pc chips and going all out for intel as i beleive the ibook would of had more life left.
It runs tiger great!, i think when leopard comes out (spring 2007) it may be different as i think apple are gearing it up for the intel chip machines but still it is a great laptop. Benefits from a RAM upgrade, mine had 1GB and ran great, the battery done almost 6 hours and i dropped it several times and it never gave any trouble.
If you can get one grab one as they will be around for ages and look as fresh as ever....
