The ibook g4 is probably one of the most popular desktops to come out of apple and quite rightly so. The ibook is a great little laptop which is lightweight and easy to carry around and with a 14 inch screen giving a perfect sized desktop. Its got a decent radeon graphics processor and comes with quicktime which can more or less play most formats and even so, the mac accepts windows media player and realtime player so you can download these with ease. It also comes with a decent array of programs inclusing a panoramic picture maker and the acclaimed garage band, where you can compose and record music very easily and to a fairly decent quality. The mac is also immune to viruses more or less, so isn't that great?
The sleek keyboard is a perfect size and adds to the look of the laptop by being so perfectly set. If you are used to PC's then its a little fiddly getting used to the key positions as some are in different places, and the control key is different which again can be a little awkward. But nothing you can't get used to.
If you are lookin on buying an ibook for interent use i would suggest buying an airport wireless card and router. These are wonderfully intergrated with the ibook and the airport card slots in beneath the lift up keyboard hidden from sight, so you don't have any USB's sticking out like in some PC's. The wireless is virtually instantaneous and connects automatically as soon as you open your ibook. (so quick iv'e been signed into instant messenger before i'd even completely logged in with my password)
I've had my laptop for two years now and unfortunately some problems have arised. The main problem is that slot loading optical drive has stopped working and there is a disk in there which won't eject and isn't read as being in there. The annoying thing is that there is no 'emergency eject' button as in powerbook's and other mac desktops. I have yet to take this to the apple shop and pay a hefty sum i imagine. The charger is also a little dodgy and heats up to a ridiculous temperature and then stops charging. So hot that it has left burn marks when trying to detach it. I replaced the battery though and am glad to say it does not happen very often, but does every now and then. A final problem i have found is that very occasionally the backlight of the ibook turns off and although you can still see the screen, it is extremely difficult to navigate it. You can normally close the ibook to put it to sleep and then reopen it again but sometimes this doesn't work and needs to be shut down.
All in all a good laptop. great for online chat, work and publishing (its compatible with microsoft office if you are a PC user) and online games (though you should probably get a mouse rather than use the trackpad). A few relatively minor problems and the hard drive fills up quicker than you realise but don't they all?

...to give! I purchased an Apple Mac after stupidly trying to run the Adobe creative suite, and Logic on a PC. And I have to say after trying to set up a new Vista PC last week, I will NEVER get another PC.
This Mac is a great starter point for the first time Apple buyer. It is light enough to carry around, and has a very sufficeint 6hour battery life. Having a built in cd/dvd copier is a great bonus, along with the small charger plug unlike many laptops. ...
