As a student studying Graphic Design, Apples were a must. I used an eMac whilst studying and had no problems with that. But, now iv finished studying and joined the big wide world, i needed something portable and light, yet still powerful enough to cope with the demands of 'real' work.
The 14.1" Screen is ideal. It is big enough for me and clients to see clearly.
If you didnt know, apples are safe from Internet viruses as no one right them for the Mac Operating System, so connecting this laptop up to WiFi (Wireless Internet Connection) with its built in Airport Express Card, will be alot safer that a Windows Laptop.
Also, Apples are less complicated than PC's because PC's work on multiples of layers, whereas Apples work on just one layer.
The iBook has Plenty of ports for all needs indluding: 2x USB 1x Firewire 1x port for sharing with another larger monitor
The tracking pad and mouse button is in the perfect position in relation to the soft touch keybord, although i recommend buying a seperate mouse because the tracking pad can be quite difficult to use in combination with the shortcut buttons on the keyboard when drawing.
Some people say that a disadvantage to apples is the lack of programmes. As standard, Apples come with itunes, iphoto (a brilliant photo storage programme that can a computer amateur can adjust the size and look of your photos. It also has iMovie as standard where you can edit and burn your home videos. Text Edit is similar to Word, just abit more basic.
However the other programmes that are available like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, are perfect for the aApple, because as i said earlier, it runs on less layers so its less complicated.
Not that many games are made for the Apples, but, If you want to play games, buy a games console, and if you want to design artwork, produce music or have a stylish looking piece of technology thats portable, no too big, not too small, buy an Apple iBook.
I Bought my iBook off of ebay, it was only a year old and i manged to buy it for just 350 pounds! Only because the bloke miss spelt the name!!?? But generally decent iBooks are going for about 400 - 500 Pounds second hand, and they are only mainly going to be used by students, or professional people, so no kids have mucked around and damaged them. Make sure that the new looking ones arent actually still on the G3 Processor, old hat. and you need a biggish hard drive to hold all your extra programmes. 30GB minimum.
And dont go for the 12.1" screen as i belive that its just a bit too small.
