I was like everyone else when I first saw the imac G5, I loved the look and decided I wanted one.
So it arrived and immediately annoyed me with its ridiculous power switch on the bottom rear of the machine and the distinct lack of usb sockets, only 3 on the whole system, which I think is pretty poor. The additional memory from Apple was very expensive, so I bought mine from Crucial and added it myself, this was a 2 minute job and can be done by anyone.
Now I know the sockets were annoying, but that is and still remains my only fault with this machine. The display is ultra sharp and the speed of the machine is pretty good, not as good as the newer Intel Dual Core machines of course, but still completely acceptable.
The DVD/CD re-writer (superdrive) is excellent, burns very quickly and is very reliable.
Keyboard is fabulously designed, but the included mouse is pitiful, its inaccurate and has no right mouse button or scroll wheel - don't make the mistake I did though and buy a mighty mouse, because this is even worse, its absolute rubbish. Just buy a cheap usb PC mouse and your set!
Before I added the extra ram to my mac - standard was 256Mb the performance was sluggish, I upgraded this to 1Gb and the machine flew after this, and this was only £50 from crucial, so no need to pay the apple extortionate prices!
I've had my mac nearly 2 years now, and it has crashed once in that time, and that was my stupid fault not the machines!
Yes the performance isn't quite as good as a PC, but when it looks this good and is so reliable it suits me fine!
