"iMac - International Market Abusing computer"

I had the 'pleasure' to use this system with quite a bit of its features for over a year now (school 'studio').
First of all, as a hybrid of both Mac OS X and Windows, finally as a Mac OS X only system. It is one of the slowest, hottest (temerature-wise!) and useless machines ever assembled.
I have been using windows for ~10 years and I honestly don't see one positive thing about Macs when compared, all you get is limited access to applications and games really.
But, lets organise this thing into some sensible report, starting off with the hardware;
Straight from Apple's Site:

Intel 2.5 GHz Quad Core Sandy Bridge processor, installed on a xxx motheboard with xxx cooling
AMD 6750M graphics card also with unknown (probably passive) cooling
min. 4GB RAM from unknown company, at 1333 MHz this time probably no cooling at all

That's about it for hardware information. result: you get a computer that is capable of heating up to almost hand-burnable temperatures in air-conditioned room computer that can be outperformed by any wisely set up machine within similar cost range.

Besides you HAVE to settle with the horribly designed and completely anti-ergonimics orientated 'magic' mouse and keyboard which is 'magically' powered by 2 AA batteries, which tend to even more 'magically' run out.
Pushing it even further, they become 'magically' unstable in environment where 20 of these are working simultaneously, resulting in replacement to random mice, and occasional double keyboard connection to 1 platofrm.

If I am to be honest with you, the only advantage that you get by buying this thing is that it's AIO, maybe pretty design as well. nothing else. Loading a 6x page Word document full of cropped HD images may be fairly quick, but editing such file is a pain in the backside... with the average of 2-3 few minute hangs with colourful cursor spinning in front of ur face during a double-lesson period I have enough of apples for the rest of the week, even real ones.

iMac is like Modern Warfare 3, it's there because of other products that keep the company's rep high up.

If you want to get a computer, sacrifice one day of your life, read through some internet reviews, and assemble one yourself, you will at least know what you're getting.

P.S One of the iMac's in school got its HDD broken, within warranty time. I think 5% is a huge amount when putting all personal data and work at risk...

    My son who is an animator from Eurocom designing games would disagree with you !

    Steve Jobs hated fans in computers - which may well explain why this one gets so hot.

Manufacturer's product description

Today's iMac has come a long way from the first 15-inch iMac. Take one look and you'll see just how far. A display with edge-to-edge glass covers nearly the entire front of the enclosure. When all you see is the display, nothing gets between you and what's onscreen. Movies, TV shows, FaceTime HD video calls, websites, photos - everything looks stunning on the widescreen 16:9 iMac display. The more pixels a display has, the more light those pixels need to achieve the best picture possible. And that's exactly what the LED backlighting in iMac does: it pushes light through each pixel with remarkable brightness and efficiency. Because the LED backlight doesn't take up much space, the iMac enclosure stays thin - even with all the high-performance components inside. The widescreen iMac display allows more room to separate the two hottest components, the CPU and the GPU. This keeps things cool inside the iMac enclosure. Apple engineers also implemented an intelligent control system that monitors temperatures and delivers just the right amount of airflow to critical components. And the three fans inside iMac have been tuned to be ultra quiet, so you hardly know it's on. Watching a movie, updating your blog, editing photos. Tasks like these require data to travel from place to place. The Intel Core architecture puts the processor, cache, memory controller, and graphics engine on a single chip. Since data doesn't have as far to travel, you get faster performance and greater efficiency. Thunderbolt technology has arrived - and Apple computers are the first to have it. With one tiny port, you get lightning-fast transfer speeds and huge expansion capabilities. Two 10-Gbps data channels per port mean you can transfer data up to 12 times faster than with FireWire 800. And don't worry about a single drive or peripheral tying up the Thunderbolt port: you can daisy-chain as many as six devices plus a display.
