I know what your thinking...... Your thinking the same thing I thought when I saw the I-Pad 1. Not a lot really, it just looks like an I-phone being firmly gripped in the miniscule hands of a pixie. To be completely fair, from a comic perspective, thats exactly what it looks like.
All jokes aside, the I-pad 2 is very very cool. Even the un boxing was absolutely fascinating. As I lifted off the lid and carefully peeled back the polly paper, I felt like I was looking at a boxed ancient artifact. It was brilliant.
The machine itself is rather compelling to look at, its a thing of beauty in a kind of sordid geeky fashion. I love it. As ever when you purchase something from Apple, all the correct plugs and cables are in the box and strangely enough have pretty much remained the same since the very first I-pod classic 1st Generation. So figuring out what went where was so simple, a pigeon could do it.
The first thing I notice upon handling the device was how much less it weighed than its predecessor. 80 grams lighter to be correct. 80 grams does not sound like a lot but when you consider the fact that when you are lugging it round in a side bag all day from place to place. 80 grams can mean quite a bit.
in my opinion the back plate on the I-pad 2 feels like a cheap and tacky piece of plastic, after further investigation, it turns out that it is actually made of metal. Another good point to make is even though the I-pad 2 is three to four times the size of an I-phone 4, its actually one third thinner. making it thinner than your wallet!
However, upon reflection, my wallet is actually thinner than the i-pad 2, considerably thinner. Prices start at around about £399 for the Apple I-pad 2 16GB WiFi model. The model that I have infront of me. For that sort of money I would expect to have a lot more hard disk space, at least 50GB. Like anything in life though, you will always pay for the label. I was certainly lot happier with the price when i saw the price of the 64GB model. £659 to be precise. Granted, the 64GB model does come with 3G but im not sure that 3G and an extra 48GB can justify the extra £260. Who knows, maybe I just dont earn enough?
Having had a winge about the price, the actual hardware is great. The processor is really fast so all the Apps were starting up almost straight away. I dont need to go into to much detail about the apps and other gizmos you get because if you have been outside your front door in the last 5 years, a rich kid from down the street would almost certainly of rubbed his new Apple gizmo's in your face and shown you all about it!
Fact of the matter is, Apple are at the top of their game. It doesn't matter what it is that they release it is always good. Maybe the public should try to bear that in mind when they see the hefty price tag. If you want gold, you have to pay for it!
