Introduction#
As you might have read my previous reviews i love Apple products and do like testing them out. I previously owned a iPad one which i still have now, i was really happy with it and loved the device so when i found out that Apple were going to bring out a brand new iPad i was definitely going to buy it. I saw that it had a camera and came in white which really made me buy the product. After going into the Apple store i saw that the new iPad was more lightweight, thinner, and allowed you to skype people which i love doing. After testing in the Apple store i was ready to buy my new Apple iPad. In this review i will put the different categories into sections to make it easier to read, and access.
Buying My iPad#

As you might see around and about through the stores all iPads are sold for the same price except for some stores like Debenhams and others who want to make a profit and will therefore sell them for more. In general stores like Argos, The Apple Store, and HMV they sell them for the exact price which starts from £399. As i knew i would get a good service from The Apple Store i decided to buy my iPad from there, it is pretty local for me too. I bought my iPad which was £399 for a white one with no accessories. I was quite surprised as the box was quite small and lightweight. I took the iPad home to set it up!
First Setting Up The iPad#
Once i took the iPad home i was ready to use it. I didn't need to read the instruction manuals as i had helped a family member set one up already and also as i set up my previous one. I knew to install the software it needs to be plugged into a laptop or desktop with iTunes (which will need downloading if you don't already have it). The iPad is connected via the USB which comes in the box with the iPad. The iPad takes about 20 minutes to sync with the computer and obviously faster or slower depending on the speed of your computer. One thing that did surprise me was the fact that it came fully charged so it was ready to use, one thing which i really loved! Once you had synced the iPad it was ready for use, that simple, and nothing else to it. The process was really simple and easy for everybody even if you’re not a technology person!
User Manuals & Guides#
The user manuals and guides which come with the iPad2 are excellent and in my eyes they cannot be better at all. The user guides and manuals are very professional and easy to understand. The text in them is simple which makes it easy to follow. The text is in a good font as well and no squiggly writing which would make it hard to read! The text is also equal to the amount of high quality images in the manual. The pictures are clear and look like what you have in front of you which always helps. Everything is well annotated and easy to follow again. The user manuals and guides are also written in different languages which is great if you want to read the information in something other than the English language. If that information is not enough there are also videos and more manuals online.
Therefore if the user manuals where damaged or you lost them you can download them from online, although mine were packaged brilliantly so i wouldn't have thought that they would be that damaged.
Battery Life#
Battery life on this iPad2 is great. The current battery levels can be viewed at the top of the iPad2 near the time and the bit where it says your network (if you have 3G) and the fact that it is a iPad2. I love that because so can easily view what battery levels you are on. The battery level also gives you a warning pop up box when you reach only 20% remaining, only 10% remaining, and also only 5% remaining which is great because it informs you straight they say of the battery level and prevent you from forgetting and it dying on you, or having to keep looking and judging how long you have left. The battery level also turns red as it does with most technology these days to try and draw your attention to the fact that your tablet about to die! Apple claims 8 hours of 3G talk time, up to 9 hours of wifi use, 10 hours video playback and 40 hours of musical pleasure. My iPad charge usually lasts a long time. I say usually it goes down alot faster if you are watching tv programmes, or videos, and also if you are listening to them at a high volume. Texting and calls can also contribute especially if you are video calling! The battery life of the iPad lasts longer if you keep the volume down and not on full blast, and if you are viewing, apps, internet pages and also photos. When looking through photos and web pages my iPad definitely lasts 9 hours or more which is great for non-stop searching. For video's mine lasts about 10-11 hours which again is great because the ones i have are on loud volume and of high quality. The iPad is also quickly charged up either by mains charger or USB, only takes around 1 hour. Overall i would give the battery life of the iPad 10/10.
Apps and App Store#
Apps are great from Apple. The Apple App store holds over 250,000 apps so there is definitely something for everybody. By purchasing the apps which you want you can personalise your device and make sure you have the things you like. Apps fits onto the pages of the home screen on your iPad. There are usually 16 apps per page which can be altered if you want a certain amount on each one. If you want to move or delete apps this can be easily done by pressing and holding down on a app for a few seconds. The apps then start to shake and can be moved around or there becomes a cross for you to delete them. To get apps onto your phone you can either plug it in and buy it from the app store or buy it from the app store on your iPad. Both of these options require a internet or WiFi connection. Apps are very cheap from the Apple App Store most being free or 99p which is neither here or there in my eyes. Some of the more developed apps such as Sat Nav apps and others do cost more but there aren't a lot of them. To download you need a iTunes account which is free. Downloads are very fast, and efficient.
After download the apps appear on your home screen.
iTunes#
People mostly know iTunes for being downloaded on the computer as a application, but iTunes is also pre-installed on your iPad. iTunes is the place you go when you want music and videos downloaded on your iPad. iTunes is easily and efficiently downloaded onto your computer or laptop. To download simply visit the apple website which i will add onto the bottom of the review and look for the program. It is free to download which is great. Apple have provided step by step instructions along with the program which makes downloading it alot easier. Once downloaded (it doesn't take long at all about 20 minutes if not less) you can plug in your iPad through the USB which came in the box and add music and bits to your iPad. The computer version is needed if you have your own music already downloaded or music on CD's to be put onto your iPad. The version on your iPad can only be used for music you have purchased through iTunes. Music on there is usually 69p per track or £4.99 etc for a album. The price of music on iTunes is a lot less than purchasing the CD, or album in a store. iTunes is great and easy to use for all ages. Another great reason to get an iPad!
iCloud#
I love iCloud, and it works really well with my iPad and also the iPhone or iPod if you have one! iCloud stores your music, photos, documents and more, and wirelessly pushes them to all your devices. iCloud is basically iTunes on your computer but pre-installed on your device. On iCloud it creates back-up's of documents and also holds them, music videos and photo's can all be put onto this handy little app which is on your phone. After this you can wireless send the objects to other Apple devices which you, your family or even friends may have. My friend a couple of weeks ago compared it to being a little bit like bluetooth which explains the app really. The app fast and efficiently sends things which is great especially if you need to do it in a rush. iCloud is really easy to use and i think it is a great addition to the new phone! With iCloud, you can have iTunes automatically download new music purchases to all your devices the moment you tap Buy. You can also access past music purchases from any of your devices — wirelessly and without syncing (as off Apple). Photo stream on iCloud is also great, you can take a photo and send it to people and the photo soon will be everywhere you want it to be!
Wifi & Signal Connections#
Wifi and signal connections on the new iPad in general are great. I mean i cannot talk for all networks because i simply haven’t tried all of them but i am with O2 (3G device)and the service could not be any better. The general signal is really good and responsive and i have never been in a position where i could not get signal as of yet. Another great thing about Apple products is the fact that WiFi on them is fantastic. WiFi connections are easily connected to with a click of a button, and the strength of the signal is great.
This is fab for when you are out and about and are in a wifi zone as you may as well take use of the services. WiFi is now in most places but if you have internet on the iPad (3G device) you may not use it unless you are on a limited contract which it could come in hand. Even without wifi the internet on the iPad (3G) works great, and very fast which again is a plus for the iPad.
Picture Quality#
The picture quality on the new iPad2 is great. It has HD quality which is something i love about the device myself, there is never come a stage where i wasnt happy with the screen quality. The screen shows hundreds or even thousands on colours which really enhances the picture quality. The lights are really bright which can be changed with the brightness button which can be found on the Settings Menu. The picture quality of the pictures taken by the camera are also great which i have mentioned earlier. The picture which goes behind the apps is great quality as well which is good because it really makes the apps on your device stand out. Picture quality is also great when viewing videos and tv programmes on your device, the images are free flowing and are almost HD which i could not complain about. When on apps the picture quality is the same great quality. I definitely could not fault the picture quality of the phone or any Apple product in general.
Camera#
The iPad has two cameras on the iPad which are very easy to use. With the cameras you can record videos or take photo's. You can simply tap the screen to take a photo or start a video. Back camera: Video recording, HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio; still camera with 5x digital zoom. Front camera: Video recording, VGA up to 30 frames per second with audio; VGA-quality still camera. The quality of the photo's are great and look good as background or being viewed on the iPad. The camera is good for when you are out and about and means that if you have your iPad you don't have to carry camera's around because the quality is great. The pictures and videos which are took by the iPad are bright and vibrant just how you like the photo's. Once photo's are took they can be sent to emails and people with Apple devices simply. The camera is new to the iPad and a great reason to purchase one - another good feature of the iPad.
Sound Quality#
Sound quality on the iPad is also the top quality much like all of the Apple products. Sound quality is something i definitely look for in a device like the iPad because i do tend to listen to music quite a bit when i am out and about and also when i am just hanging around at home. The sound quality on the iPad is really good especially when it comes to listening to music. The sound quality comes out really good from the sound player on the top of the iPad and also from out the earphones which come with the phone. I have also bought some SkullCandy headphones which i have found the same great quality sound come out of. The sounds are really clear and vibrant! The sounds of the music are better if you buy the music of iTunes but other than that the quality is great!
Sound quality is also very good for the videos on the phone and the tv programmes. For me the sound quality could not be better, and is better than my Apple iPod which i also own. The top quality sounds which come out the device is another reason why i bought the iPad2 from Apple.
Kindle Or iBooks#
Most people feel that the kindle is great for the price and decide to buy it because they don't realise of the book opportunities of the iPad. iBooks is pre-installed on the iPad and can be used easily. When you click on the app it comes up with a book rack which will store all of the books which you download. Most books cost about 69p or FREE which is great. I currently only have free books on my account because simply i am not a book person to be honest. The books are easy to read and use. You click on the books you want and read them. The font size can be changed which is great and makes them easier to read. There are hundreds of books to choose from which is great for different personalities and ages again. I have used a Kindle myself and i do favour the iPad for reading books but maybe that is just me. I can say that the iBooks app is a great thing to have!
Speed#
The speed of the iPad2 is great helped by the new OS5 which is the new operating system of Apple. The speed is really good and doesn't crash which is great when compared to other devices on the market today. The speed helps the apps, internet, and videos to work fast and efficiently which is great when you are on the iPad. The speed is great and couldn't be better in my eyes. I would feel that the more memory taken up on the iPad the slower it would get but that wasn't the case, i went over half the memory and it was still as fast as the start. I feel that the speed is helped by the new iCloud which allows your device to hold 5GB more memory which is great for everyone. When compared to other tablets on the market i do feel that the iPad is one of the faster ones definitely. I have rated the speed as very fast because i feel that is what the iPads speed is, i dont feel that it could be better!
Look&Feel#
The look and feel of the iPad is great. The iPad comes in either Black or White so the decision is yours which one you purchase; they are both the same price. The Black and the White iPad have glossy housing around the edges of the screen which is great because it makes the iPad look modern and also makes it easier to clean when compared with other devices. The back of the iPad has a silver like finish which is also easy to clean and makes the iPad look modern. The iPad has a Apple logo on the back with a black finish and the fact that it is a iPad. The iPad is lightweight which is great and makes it easier to take out and about. The iPad is thin which is great and makes the look and feel alot better. The iPad has a smooth finish, and looks great which is another reason to buy the new iPad.
Memory&Capacity#
The iPad comes in different ranges of memory, but for me the 16GB was enough. The memory doesn't get used up easily which is great.
For a guideline 50 of my songs took up 0.7GB. The iPad's come in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. The price increases by about £100 each time so if you want the extra memory it is definitely worth paying. The 16GB is £399 which i mentioned before which i feel is a great price for what you get. The 32GB is about £569 which again is great and doubles the memory of the iPad. On my 16GB i have 7 tv programmes, a film, music, and about 30 apps, and have took up just under half my memory. So therefore if you want more i would recommend purchasing the 32GB, and if you want loads the 64GB but that is alot of memory. The capacity of the iPads are great and could not be any better. The new iCloud also gives you 5GB of wireless memory which is great for the new operating system. The memory and capacity is fab and i don't think it could be any better and therefore i have rated the memory and capacity as excellent.
Comfort&Portability#
The comfort and portability of the iPad is great. The iPad is light-weight which means it is easy to take out and about. The iPad also comes with Wi-Fi and 3G connections (if purchased) which means it can be used in a range of purchases. The iPad is really portable for if you are on car journeys, on a plane or even just taking it onto work. For the iPad you can also purchase cases which makes it easier for you to carry it around. The comfort of the iPad is also great. The sides are curved which means they dont hurt you when you are holding the iPad. The back is also smooth, and the screen only needs light touches so the comfort is great as well. I feel that Apple has made the comfort and portability top class, and the fact that i can take the iPad anywhere i want (portability) is one of the top reasons i bought the device.
Robustness&Durability#
The robustness and durability of the iPads made by Apple are great in my eyes. I have obviously only had the iPad two for about one month but there are no scratches or damage to the product which is great. The durability is good although due to the price i paid for it i dont go throwing it around or testing if it will break if i do certain things. My other iPad i have owned for well over a year, and there is one very light scratch on the screen due to me missing the slot for charging but other than that the iPad is clear of any damage. The iPad robustness and durability is great but i have never dropped it straight onto the floor so i wouldn't know personally. I have heard of the screens getting damage but this have never majorly happened to me. I think that Apple has made the iPad very well and that comes across in the fact it doesn't damage which is great when compared to other devices on the market at the minute which can come apart and break. I would definitely rate the durability and robustness very high.
Ease Of Use#
The ease of use of the new iPad is great. My dad is definitely not one for technology and he loves to use the iPad to check out the latest news and sports. The iPad can simply be turned on by clicking the button at the front, and swiping the slider along the bottom of the screen.
The apps are simple to you and you can just click on them depending on what you want. The apps are easy to use, but obviously the difficulty depends on what apps you purchase or download. The apps are easy to delete and you can do so buy just holding down on them for 3 seconds and then pressing the cross. The screen is easy to use and you can just swipe across and the screen changes. The internet is also simple to use just like the apps. I feel that using the iPad could be no simpler the text is so easy to read, and is limited. I would definitely rate of use top class because it could not be any better.
Value For Money#
I understand that the iPad costs quite a bit of money but i feel that it is definitely worth it. iPads start at £399 which is quite a bit for a tablet when you can buy a laptop for the same but i have to admit i use my iPad quite a bit more than my laptop. The iPad is top quality and that outlines the price of the tablet. The iPad has lots of apps which you can download for free and the iPad itself doesn't cost a lot more at all to run. The value of the iPad is definitely worth it and it does amuse me for alot of the weekend with the range of games, apps, and the use of the internet. The iPad looks very modern and sleek which is great for what you pay to. I am so happy with my purchase i made the iPad is so easy to use and i feel it knocks spots of other devices which some cost more and some less. I would recommend the iPad to anybody and that's why i feel the value for money is great.
Customer Service#
The customer service from Apple is top class. They are a worldwide known company and there customer service definitely does not let them down. The user guides and manuals are easy to follow and understand. If you feel that you need extra help there are many ways which you can contact Apple. You can call there call centre which is great. The people who answer the phones are very helpful and try there best to solve your problem. You do not get put onto the silly music call centres have very often and they answer almost immediately. If you dont want to ring, emails are also available. Email in and a expert individual will contact you back from Apple within a few days with useful information. If you dont want to take none of these options there are step by step guides available online, video tutorials, and online forums. All of the contact details i will try and provide below! I would give the customer service 10/10 because of the range of contact options available and the quality of them.
Pro's & Con's
#Positives;
• Easy To Use
• Fab Quality
• Looks Great
• Fast Operating System
• Great Customer Service
• Thousands Of Apps To Choose From
• Good For All Ages/Genders/Personalities
Negatives;
• Costs Quite A Bit To Purchase
• If Broken Damage Can Cost Alot
Smart Cover#
One of the most famous parts of the iPad two is the smart covers which can be bought with the device. They come in a range of colours which can really brighten up the device if you like colourful things like me.
I currently have a green cover attached to my device! The smart covers which are a plastic like finish are £35 from the Apple Store which is not that much money if it prevents your screen from damage. The leather versions are about £60 which i wouldn't personally pay for the cover but you might! The smart covers magnetically clip to the iPad two efficiently which makes it easier to use. The smart covers are great for the iPad. Once clip to the iPad you can fold them up to make a stand in different ways which is great and holds the iPad up great if you are watching TV on there. The smart covers also turn off the screen lighting when closed due to magnets on the edges, this helps to save the battery which is great! Once finished with the cover can be easily took off!
Age Range#
For me the iPad is for everyone, obviously there are age limits for the younger ones but i feel with the new generation of apps the tablet can be for any gender, any age and any personality. With the iPad you can change almost everything to suit your needs, for example, you can download different apps to go with your personality, you can change the background to your liking, and download music and tv programmes which you want to watch and use. The black and white colours of the iPad means that they are not aimed at any gender in particular or any age range which means they suit everyone. There are thousands of apps which are under loads of categories which means you can also change them for business use or personal use. As i said before i feel the iPad is for anybody but the younger ones is perhaps not a good idea with the amount you are spending on the phone in my eyes. I sometimes let my little niece play on mine, she is 5 and can work certain games well, and it is also a good way to educate them and keep them amused so i think the iPad is great when being diverse - for anyone.
Overall#
Overall i would definitely recommend the iPad two. In my eyes the iPad could not be better although i am sure Apple will come up with new models soon! The iPad's are great for any gender and personality which makes the iPads so good. The quality is definitely reflective of the price and i could not recommend it anymore. If you need any help or want me to add anything to the review just ask me! Thanks for the comments and ratings really appreciated.
