Apple iPad Smart Cover

My husband recently bought an iPad 2 and as he is known as gadget man amongst our friends he has to get everything little gadget associated with the iPad as well. One of the things he bought for it was the smart cover which is basically a cover which keeps the iPad safe and protected.

I wanted him to get the pink cover but as expected got a big fat no to that suggestion so he just purchased a black cover. You can either opt for leather covers which come in other colours such as red, blue and tan or you can get polyurethane covers which comes in orange, pink, green and blue.

I think the cover is really quite an interesting design and forward thinking and suits the apple brand down to a tee. It is fashionable, function and just a little bit cool as well. The cover basically just fits over the front of the iPad, it is not an all over cover but if you just want it to protect the screen then it does the job perfectly. You can also buy cases that slip over the iPad if you want a more secure cover but for just protecting the screen, like I've said above, this is perfect. The cover is actually magnetic and so it snaps back into place over the iPad when you cover it to ensure that you get a really perfect fit. Once it has magnetically closed it doesn't move or shift and so your screen is protected all the time. It will only open again once you have pulled it back yourself, it is a really tight fit which I think is great. The cover is really thin as well so you are not adding much bulk to the iPad which is great as this defeats the purpose of the whole machine being a thin, transportable gadget. On the inside of the cover there is a microfibre lining which helps to keep the screen clean and I find it's really good in keeping dust away from your screen.

The cover actually works as a shut down for your iPad too so when you close the cover it puts your iPad to sleep and then when you pull it back it wakes up the iPad so the screen comes to life again with all your icons.

The cover also works as a handy stand. It has a number of sections to it, almost like it has been folded into four sections so when you pull it back you can fix it into a long triangle shape, much like a Toblerone box and this then works as a stand underneath your screen. The screen is then length ways and you can use your iPad this way. This is really handy if you want to read long articles and don't want to have to hold it the whole time.

The iPad smart cover costs £59 and is a good investment if you want to keep your iPad like new.
