After having trouble with a previous HTC (Wildfire) I made the conscious decision to splash out the £400 it takes to purchase one on pay as you go. Due to the constant freezing and slow nature of the HTC, an iPhone was a welcome breeze with its latest technology features such as a 12 mega pixel camera and ios 5 updates.
First time set up: To do this, all that was required was to download itunes from the apple site and use the given adapter cable to plug into my computer. This download only took a few minutes and was well worth it due to the good display of media it allows. Subsequently, this synced the music and other media onto the phone so next was the sim card activiation. You are supplied with a small utensil to access the sim compartment. It is placed in a small section at the top of the phone and is completely secure from accidental removal. Then, to connect to the app store, an apple ID is required to be set up where a pre paid cash can be added or just abnk details to purchase music and apps.
Updates: There have been a few software updates for the iphone 3GS and it is worth updating to not miss out on the new features added every month or two. Especially with remote sync, it becomes even easier just to sit and connect. Not all updates need to be carried out this way though, with app updates being accessed on the move by the store.
Usability: Second to none. This was shown in my opinion by the fact that it only took a few hours to get used to it! This included, messaging, emailing, app downloading and using the internet. The only thing that has taken me a while to get to grips with is the functions like shaking to shuffle music and using the buttons on the bespoke earphones. There is a nice balance between free and paid apps which of course many free ones are smaller versions of the paid so guess which ones I use! The movement is also incredibly fluid between screens and the loading, very smooth.
Camera: Still impressed with this, however, i use a digital camera so is not particularly paramount for me.
Battery life: I have to be careful as if i leave apps running in the background it can run down the battery incredibly quickly. A good way of correcting this is restarting the phone. It usually lasts me about 2 days if I am economical and about a day if I am not.
