This review is for the Apple Iphone 4 32GB.
The Contents and Setup
The Iphone has many various contents inside the box obviously the phone model itself is there which is understandable and you have got charger as well.
You are supplied with headphones which work with any device you need headphones with and you are supplied with many booklets. These booklets are sometimes quick steps to gain success and others are just random books giving some advice.
Inside the box you are given this tiny pin and it is shaped in a unique way. The pin itself is worth over £15 and you need to keep this pin in order to retrieve the sim card which is inside the phone.
You are provided some stickers of the Apple logo should you want to decorate the phone at all and you are given a list of telephone numbers to call if you have any issues in the future.
The setup part of the phone is done either at the store you make the purchase from or at home. You have to insert the sim card carefully and then put the device onto a computer and load either ITunes or register the product yourself. You usually need to set up a password and username but the store you obtain the phone from should do all this for you there and then.
This phone has a nice and simply design which keeps it fresh and looking fantastic. On the front of the phone you have the very good screen which has got plenty of width and length to it and underneath is the main button of the phone.
The main button takes you back to the home page on the phone and is the biggest source of activity on the phone. Above the screen is where the one camera is located to film you. On the very top surface of the phone is where you have the head phones location and also the power button as well.
On the left hand side of the phone is where the volume controls are location and underneath the phone is the charger location and speakers. The colour on the front and back is this very metallic looking black colour and around the sides and the back the logo for Apple is done in this grey colour.
The phone measures at 115mm (4.5 inches) in height, 58.6mm (2.3 inches) in width and 9.3mm (0.37 inches) in depth. The phone does appear very bulky and long but overall you’re not that bothered by it when the features come into it.
The weight is 137g and it does feel in all honesty much heavier then this perhaps that is all down to the mind with the big appearance it has but overall I feel it seems heavier then suggested.
The screen is 3.5 inches diagonally and is widescreen.

The screen is fantastic and looks a great size for people to enjoy.
There is a 5mp camera on the back of the phone which is superb and very easy to use. You can take pictures so quickly one after the other your left very happy with the results. There are also 5x digital zoom and digital flash included with the camera.
There is also HD Video capability with this phone and this is usually done with 30 FPS and with 720p output. This feature is superb and over the weekend I was watching the England match and recorded some superb footage.
There are many features on this phone and one of the best is the retina display. This is when you visit a webpage for example and you need to zoom in closer you can do this with a few clicks on the phone touch screen and your automatically zooming into the screen and able to view items in a much larger scale. This is fantastic for WebPages you cannot really view that well so that is a great part of this phone.
You have the ability to use the Wi-fi hotspots scattered around the UK or even log into your wi-fi connection if you have one at home. The good part is that if your phone cannot find the wi-fi it will look for alternatives to log you online and usually this is going to be the 3G capability and if not this it will keep searching around. You will get online even in the remote regions apparently.
Applications have to be a big part of this phone and if people are not aware these are either free or paid service and you can download applications to your phone and these can be music players or items to view television signals but usually they are games and other sort of activities. The list is updated regularly and you can view them whenever you wish within a click on the phone.
There is also the ability for the phone to swap the images around to match you. If you have the phone in the portrait angle and wish to see a piece of text or a picture you can switch the phone around facing the landscape position and the image changes to fit this angle and for me that is superb. I love t fact the phone knows when the device has been moved so it works out very well in the long run.
You have the ability to do a conference type call and because there are two cameras you face one at yourself and if someone else has an Iphone 4 you can see them and speak in a conference type call which is fantastic as well for people who wish to view their friends.
Camera, Messaging and Contacts
On the phone you will have all these three features there and they are very easy to use. The camera is just a simple click onto the camera location and the camera is available to use. The good part about the camera is that you can take pictures so quickly and that to me makes things fantastic. You might want to take a picture of a cat but with the normal cameras they take a picture and take a while to load back up so you sort of lose patience. This phone lets you take continuous pictures very quickly and stores them for you to view later on.
The flash as well which comes with the camera is extremely good and in the dark the flash can make the image look perfect without too much bright light interfering with the overall look of the image.
The messaging part of the phone I love because unlike normal messaging you have on phones you need to open up the message and then click to reply well with this phone you have a messaging option on the phone and when someone has messaged you the phone registers they have spoken to you and if you click on the message it stores the message in a bubble word format. It makes the messaging more fun and you reply using the keypad which has all the buttons you would want to use. The messaging also notices any spelling issues and will automatically change them for you as well.
The contacts is a nice part of the phone because you can add contacts and store plenty of information on them as well but you can put a picture to the person you have sorted so it makes it more fun when they ring you so you know who it is ringing you beforehand.
Ipod and Other Applications
The iPod on the phone is like the iPod touch itself you can store music on their via iTunes which is already loaded on to the phone. You can store the music you have on a computer by sending the music directly to the phone and playing this whenever you want.
You can use the music as the sound for your ringing tone or messaging tone so either way you get yourself plenty of enjoyment. You can even turn music on in the background and serve online as well so you’re left enjoying every single moment of the iPod. All music is put into either artists, songs or albums so you can find who you want from those search criteria.
The other applications on the phone are things like a compass which I guess is helpful if you’re out hiking somewhere and need some guidance something perhaps Bear Grylls could do with and you have the weather on there and calculators. You get the basics you might expect with normal phones but slightly more.
You have the YouTube video service which lets you view videos from the Youtube.com website and you have got stocks which let you view the stock market and calendar as well.
The safari application lets you go online which is usually very easy to use as this is the web browser designed by Apple themselves so you can depend on them to have a good web browser.
There are reports of problems with this phone and they are real and I have experienced three of my own. At the start the iTunes I had on my computer wanted to update to 9.2 and it did this but it actually locked up the Iphone so I had to restore the phone back to factory settings because the new software had to be sorted out.
Not only that but the 3G on my phone was also not working. The wi-fi was fine and it worked alright but the actual 3G never worked and I had to spend nearly 2 hours on the phone to Apple to sort out the issues which were resolved, yet again this was a silly error which should not happen.
The final problem was the sound on the phone was a bit slow as well and eventually that was sorted out via me downloading the programme on the phone again.
The device has got problems and most people will moan and complain but if you ring Apple directly they do sort out the problems and since I have had no trouble with the phone ever since.
Deal I Received
I went to Tesco on the off chance of finding this phone and fortunately I did and it was on a deal where I got the phone for a set price of £269 and this was on a 12 month contract worth £35 a month.
You might find the phone hard to get as most places have sold out even online but if you search around and try and do deals with companies you get a better deal all the time.
Good and Bad Points
The best point has to be the fact you have a phone with so much going on. You have the fantastic speed of the wi-fi which is there to use and the 3G is always there to use as well so both are fantastic.
I love the touch screen and the ability to download applications which can assist you in life and that is always a benefit to anyone purchasing this phone.
The battery life is at least 4 days but this depends on what you have in the background and how often you go online as well.
I like the fact they have made the phone more durable so there is less chance of the scratches you were accustomed to seeing on the other phones before this one. There is also a great camera and video capabilities which are going to make people really appreciate what they have to offer.
I dislike the fact the phone feels so bulky and heavy and again this might by my imagination playing tricks on me due to the overall size but it does annoy me that it needs to be so big.
The phone has many good points with the Ipod and ITunes on there and with the good cameras and overall applications you are left in no doubt this is a superb phone.
There are some issues still I think Apple need to resolve as the confidence people have in the device is going to be quite low but overall the problems are fixable providing you aim to resolve them immediately.
I would recommend this phone because even though the price for the handset might put people off the benefits of having the device are excellent.
