Apple makes an entry into the world of mobile phones with the release of the iPhone, a cutting-edge piece of technology aimed at revolutionising the cellphone industry. I recently bagged an iPhone and a fair share of delights and disappointments along with it.
The Good: -Amazing, state-of-the-art touch pad system that facilitates much accuracy, innovative commands (eg, zoom by pinching and stretching) and multi-touch recognition by simply using one's fingers -2MP Camera: although only 2megapixels, the camera is of very high quality -WiFi, Edge, Bluetooth, SSH support -Built-in, high quality Internet Browser (Safari), Youtube Application and Email Application -Google Map Application, capable of "emulating" a GPS-like system -iPOD integrated into phone, iTunes support, Standard Audio Format support -POTENTIAL: The integrated OS facilitates installation of 3rd party applications and many new developments. eg. while the iPhone doesn't come standard with a video recorder, a video recording application is in the works. -Sleek, sexy exterior -Highly scratch-resistent touchpad/screen.
The Bad: -Lack of practical features: MMS, Multiple SMS recipients, Internal camera/Video Conferencing, Standard Video Recording Application, Java Support, 3G/HSDPA -Battery life quickly depleted -In portrait mode, touch-keyboard is difficult to use -Camera lacks basic options/zoom
Overall: A highly-aesthetic device, perfect for those seeking a more advanced interface, OS and potential; those willing to experiment with 3rd party tweaks; those willing to wait for firmware updates that slowly but surely bring practicality to the iPhone; and those seeking what is, arguably, the sexiest phone on the scene.
My overall rating: 7.5/10 A great phone with even greater potential.
