iPhone. The greatest device since GSM was first created? Yes and No. I've had the iPhone for just over 4 months and I have mixed feelings over the device. I used ZiPhone to unlock mine from AT&T in the US for use in Ireland.
Out of the box the iPhone is intruative (It has to be as a Manual is not included in the box). The box included a small quick start guide, a headset and the various connectors. Set up with iTune is a breeze even for a newbie.
The Home Screen on the iPhone differs from most WIndows based Smart devices as a simple press closes the running program down. I own a HTC Touch aswell and found it much easier to upgrade and customise than the iPhone. While the iPhone has a huge and diverse 3rd party App community you may have to wait a long time until an App you need comes about. However, once they are released you can have Skype, Webtexting and Photo based apps in no time. The Installer interface is very user friendly.
The call qulaity from the iPhone is satisfactory. Volume control can be hard to use when in a call especially if a case is being used (More on that later). Texting is surprisingly simple with the on screen keyboard. The iPhones touchscreen is like nothing before in its percision. on screen correction is made possible by iPhones inbuilt dictionary.
Music is a large part of the iPhones selling point and in my opinion is the exact same clarity and timbre that we have come to expect from Apple. Volume control can be hard on the on screen volume control if you have larger fingers however. The interface is the exact same as the iTouch series.
Web browsing on the iPhone is a dream with an inbuilt Safari browser. I have yet to meet a site that did not download correctly or would take an inconvenient time to load.
The iPhone needs a case. Don't be fooled by the iPhones Advertisements. If you drop this device it will break. It doesn't have the feel of durabilty that some Smart devices do.
Battery life on medium usage is in the region of 6 days.
In closing the iPhone is a fantastic device. I believe it to be worthy of the price tag it carries. However, you must be willing to void your warranty and Jailbreak the device to unleash its full potential. If you are looking for just a music player however, I would recommend the iTouch instead.
