In a nutshell: IT’S A TOUCH SCREEN. No other phone have I ever come across since I laid my hands on has so much capabilities as this beautiful beast. It’s a phone, it’s a music player, it’s a camera, it’s a web browser, it’s everything all mashed together into one beautiful device. However its not cheap and it has many limitations so unfortunately its like my last girlfriend; a imperfect beauty.
When it comes to the iPhone, I never can make the decision over whether I hate it or love it. It’s a beautiful little device with operates on Apple’s OS X operating system. Its all touchscreen so instead of using buttons the phone has icons that appear on the very touch-sensitive screen, and this screen is big, actually its bigger than big its HUGE.
Apple claimed that the iPhone was five years ahead of the competition and when you have a play with the little thing you start believing all their propaganda. Touch the little phone icon on the screen and the address book appears, tap the name and the iPhone makes a call, all very simple. Touch the picture icon and your pictures magically appear. The responsiveness of all the functions are extradorninary, my experience with user interface phone which have all these gizmos and effects results in lagging and crashing, but that wasn’t the case with the iPhone.The iPhone is a complete joy to play with and to use as a simple phone. Once you've owned an iPhone it's hard to imagine ever going back to a normal phone.
The iPhone is an iPod too of course. The iPhone plays music and video, so you don’t need an iPod anymore. The typical iPhone has 8giga bytes of memory which can hold approx. 2000 songs. Can you current phone do that?
Unfortunately the camera is more five years out of date than “five years ahead of the competition”. The camera is just 2 megapixels, it lacks autofocus and has no flash. It’s a toy camera compared to the competiton. The top five phones on the market all have 5 megapixels.
Whats even better than music on the go, is the internet on the go. The iPhone includes the Safari web browser, which is the best mobile we I have ever come across. Its great as if you get lost walking around town, the iPhone with the help of google maps will help you get to where you want to be.
Unfortunately we come to the bad news. First the iPhone is not cheap. Its only exclusive to the O2 store. You can purchase iPhone which are unlocked however this voids the warranty, and I don’t recommend you take that root. So back to 02. With 02 you must first purchase the phone and then be on an 18month contract the cheapest of which being £35.
The battery life of the iPhone is also terrible. The big LCD screen eats up the power and with all the extra gadgets to play with the battery is used up rather quickly.
In conclusion the iPhone is still a fantastic phone, but its not for everyone. Its very expensive, but aren’t all things of beauty? The user-interface is what wins this phone its good graces. The phone is also a great media player, and no other phone on the market can come compete with that. If you have the money and you love the minimilistic look, the iPhone is the phone for you. If you are on a budget then forget the charms of the iPhone and buy a cheaper alternative with has a lot more functions.
