All in all, a cracking piece of equipment. In theory, the battery can last, according to Apple, up to 14 hours. I have never had it last that ... ...quickly. I would recommend putting the "hold" on the top of the ipod on when not using. I have wasted so much battery by having it blaring away in my handbag without me realising.
Anyway, overall it really is great. I'd rate it 9/10 but would suggest to those of you who want to use it for photos as well, that you go for the 2 or 4gb. ... more
I was given my Ipod Nano 1Gb in black for my birthday and was made up with it! Saved me £129 as I was going to uy myself one anyway! It comes with the necessary software and cables and also a cover and headphones.
I think the first thing you should all know is exactly how much 1Gb is? Well according to Apple, you can fit APPROX 240 songs on an Ipod of this size. I have 261 on mine and still a tiny bit of space! It weighs only 42g and its dimensions are 90 x 40 x 6.9 mm. It's a tiny little thing! It has a 3.61cm (diagonally measure) lcd screen, full colour.
Ok, well the first thing to do is charge it. In order to do this you need to plug it into your computer with the provided USB cable. (I chose to buy an adaptor so that I could charge it from a wall socket when travelling...this was £20.)
Next up is installing the software. This was surprisingly simple actually. The instructions on screen were clear and the electroni manual explains how to put tracks on, so I won't turn this into an instruction manual. What I will say, however, is that I recommend enabling your Ipod for disk use, as it measn you are not entirely restricted to Itunes (there are other programmes available) and I would always opt NOT to have your Ipod update automatically in accordance with your Itunes library. This is simply because if you decide to delete the tracks from your library (why would you need them on both Ipod and computer afterall?), it upates your Ipod by deleting them from there too!
When you turn on your Ipod, the first menu you will see offers; MUSIC, PHOTOS, EXTRAS, SETTINGS AND SHUFFLE SONGS.I will go through what each of this comprises.
MUSIC: This is essentially all the music tracks that you have put onto the Ipod and you can choose to browse them as sorted by artist, title, album, genre, composer or playlist.
PHOTOS; This allows you to view the photographs you have put onto your Ipod. I personally havent put any on, but it's always a nice option. Again you can browse them through here.
EXTRAS; I think what surprised me the most about this was the fact there are games on it! I love it! The extras menu consists of CLOCK, GAMES, CONTACTS, CALENDAR, NOTES, STOPWATCH AND SCREENLOCK. The clock allows you to set the time and city. This then automatically sets several other clocks from major places around the world for you. There is the option of an alarm clock on here too, so if you plug in a mini speaker instead you can be woken up by your favourite song! The games included on it are Brick, Music Quiz, Parachute and Solitaire. I find it difficult to control them with the click wheel to be honest, but I really enjoy Music Quiz. Basically you are shown 5 titles of tracks you have on your MP3 player and played a small sample and you have to choose the correct title as quickly as possible. The contacts option allows you to put contact information in but this must be done from the computer and can't be entered through the actual Ipod/. Calendar includes a calendar of course but also a to-do list generator, which is quite handy! Notes is basically a space for you to put on any word processed document you want on there. Stopwatch speaks for itself - very useful when playing Countdown with your friends lol!
From SETTINGS you control the settings of your Ipod. Firstly the EQ...there are more than 20 options, or even "off" if you dont want to bother with that! Then there is the option to turn compilations and sound check on and off. This is followed by whether you want the "click" sound when you use the wheel. It gets annoying after a while...I'd turn it off! Then there are the date and time settings, contact settings, language setting and the legal documentation Apple are obliged to include. From here you can also change the length of time to keep the back light on for and arrange shuffle and repeat play settings.
SHUFFLE SONGS does exactly that...lets you choose to play the songs in any random order!

But but it charges quickly.
Advantages: Slim and Just magnificent- stores music and pics..what more do you want? Disadvantages: Damn- MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A COMPUTER THAT WORKS...LMAO
...and is available for both Apple Mac and Windows.
The battery life is an incredible 14 hours which is pretty good in comparison with my previous mp3 player which lasted a mere 6 hours which is less than half of what the nano can last for. There are numerous things you can do on yuor iPOD nano whilst listening to music at the same time. Such as go through your photo collection, maybe by creating a slideshow. Or you might want to play games. You can ... ...artist of the music or even album which i find quite useful when looking for my favourite song.
Well Anyway..........here are the specs:
*SPECIFICATION*
*It weighs only 1.5 ounces which is incredibly light, especailly if you compare it to the much larger iPODS.
*Size is 3.5 x 1.6 x 0.27 which was only to be expected it was going to be this small.
*The Screen display is 1.5 inches and is colour screen unlike some of the previous iPODs. The picture ...

...with all the latest technology, Apple have already released a newer model... -You will need to spend a bit of money with extras: you will need a cover unless you want your ipod to be scratched in a few seconds.
-Also, you can only recharge it from your computer, so if you don't take your laptop everywhere you will need to spend another £25 in an AC power adaptor.

Advantages: Small, stylish and easy to use. Disadvantages: Easily scratches and sometimes freezes.
When I first purchased my Apple Ipod Nano I was blown away by how small and stylish it looked. Compared with the original Ipod this is so much more appealing. It works the same way as all the other Ipod so exsisting Ipod users will be able to pick it up and use it without need instructions. The screen has a nice resolution for displaying album art on too.
However, I found that once again this Ipod suffers from the same problems as its predecessors. ... ...I purchased a screen protector but this doesnt seemed to have helped in any way unfortunately. I have also found that on occasions the Ipod will just freeze and I need to reset it in order to carry on using it. Battery life is not great either with a full charge not giving you more than about three hours of playing time. Finally, the earphones supplied are not the best. I upgraded my earphones and noticed a big difference to sound quality. Overall ...

Advantages: It's brilliant Disadvantages: There's better around now
I used to think this was the best thing since sliced bread but now I've the new ipod nano video and it's tons better. However, the original ipod nano was a fantastic creation and shouldn't be knocked. Simple design and simple to use. I-tunes makes it easy to sort your own playlists and assign album artwork. It's unfortunate that the screen is too small to see anything properly. Also, the whole item seemed to scratch fairly easily and all the decent ... ...a problem with the new nano. The battery life didn't seem to last a particularly long time and of course there's no replacing the batteries since it's in-built but that's the same with all ipods. Sound quality is very good - came out well through the car radio too, The clickwheel is dead easy to use as is creating an 'on-the-go' playlist whilst you're out and about. Plus it looks good. ...
